Exclamation Fog lights use, PLEASE !

Dear Scooby, Scoob, Rex, Impreza etc...drivers

Please don't put your fog lights on when there's no need. This is the domain of BMW and Mercs.

I understand sometimes there are slower cars in front, but a flash will do if you must, fog lights in town traffic make us all look dumb ! (I may be dumb but I don't want to advertise it )

May be there's a good reason for this, if so please let me know ?

Cheers
Clint

Mine had a faulty switch, the rear fog came on everytime you turned on the ignition if the lights were on .. Thought I'd developed an extended and highly agile right knee at first ..

I use mine, as the side lights are pretty poor. Plus, I think it looks good.

What is the problem? I never use the rear fog lights (unless in very very thick fog, when there's no-one behind me), as these are a hazard for other road users.

The front fog lights are angled right down, so they won't dazzle anyone.

Can you explain the issue (apart from maybe a paper legality one)?
I think it's far more worrying that other drivers keep their rear ones on when they are not necessary (i.e. 99.9999999% of the time) and that in poor conditions about 1 in 3 cars do not use their lights at all.

Rear fogs pain in the **** when they are not needed. Great warning when they are.

Front fogs may not dazzle but they are distracting and it seems they should be called 'hey look at me lights' rather than fog lights.

Just thought Scooby drivers were a little more understated than that, thats all.

Depends what your up to.

I admittedly used to have them all at all times, as i did on previous cars, saw a few other scoobies driving round with them on even during the DAY!!!

Now have them off most of the time. Realised that yes they are now being used as "look at me lights"

My scoob's bright red, so I guess it's 'look at me' even without lights on...

ClintUK - do you have an STi maybe, and are jealous of us in our lowly WRXs and our front fog lights??

I reckon anything which helps other roads users see you can only be a good thing.

Do you flash Volvo drivers to let tham know they've got their lights on during the day???

My 93 WRX doesn't have a faulty foglight switch, so can't understand that logic?

Front fog lights do dazzle when roads are wet. Side lights are pretty poor, I think that's why they put the headlights are there.

Front fogs serve no real purpose, except to annoy other road users. Think I've used mine in thick fog around a dozen times in 5 years........

I got pulled over for having mine on (fronts) in me old bugeye. That was enough reason for me - no need to attract police attention like that. These days I find it irritating in others - they may be angled down, but they can still blind when the person's going over speedbumps etc. Xenons annoy me for the same reason - unnecessary too.

Rear fogs in clear weather are just for *****.

Why is this ? do they think they'll wear their battery out with them on ?

do the people that use fogs use them as a substitute for main beam ? I mean sidelights + fogs only, not all on at the same time as that would be blinding.
I can understand sides + fogs give a nice mean look, or sides + mains do the same too. But def. not sides, fogs + mains !

Dude, chill out - how can you compare the two? Front fogs are lower power, angled down whereas main beams are higher power and higher angle. WTF?

Were you thinking of rear fogs, or just having a bit of trouble?

I can't believe that PSLewis has this many alter-egos on scoobynet...

Maybe we can lobby Blair, so he can pass a new stronger law on the use of front fog lights to divert attention from more pressing matters?

Jeez, with all the dreadful driving about it's suprising this topic seems to get people's goats up so much.

ps the last car I had was a BMW....

I've never understood the front fog light issue. Seen lots of people with them on, never ever blinded me.

Rear fogs are a differnt issue. As are front Xenons, when going over a bump they always seem to blind me.

If front fogs are dazzling you, then they are probably not setup correctly.

I do understnd that some people do not like any "look at me additions to a car". So just like the Max Power crew are not liked, then neither are the fog lights. I just fail to see an issue with them tbh.

Around town I keep em off, people don't like me to have them on, so fair enough. Out of town when there is no traffic they come on. The more light the better.

Sides and Fogs may give a nice look if the photos being taken by a pro, with a stormy sky or in an open cast mine for a mag cover.

Unfortunately we don't live in movies nor are we all cover models (speaking for myself anyway)

Plus the fact you can't actually see what it looks like, unless your cars just been nicked.
