Are Dayco timing belts ok?
I can get one of these at a reaonable price and was just looking to check if they are up to much and are they as good as a a gates item or genuine subaru item as dont wanna save a few quid on a timing belt and end up replacing an engine?

You've answered your own question, no point opting for a non subaru item for the couple of quid you save. That said there probably made in the same factory!

Simple, ring up the distributor and ask what gaurantee policy they offer with the belt and what they are liable for if it does fail prematurely:

Most good OE spec belts manufacturers guarantee their belts from failure and will payout if they break prematurely - as long as the fauilre wasn't caused by incorrect fitting or a bad tensioner or idler. I had the cylinder head on Rover (honda engine) repaired after the new cambelt failed due to being faulty (it does happen...with any make even genuine).

For what it's worth I think Dayco actually make the belts for Mazda...(I may get proved wrong but I'm pretty certain). I've used them on Mazda MX-5's for years with no problems.
