Question STi MY54 vs MY05?

Hi,
I know the technical differences on paper between the MY54 and MY05 STi's eg wider track, manual split diff etc etc put is there really a big difference between the 2 when it actually comes down to driving them?
Cheers, Toby

Yes I have a MY05 and it is a much more focused and direct car even at every day driving speeds!

I love my scoob!

Have you driven an MY54 then? I drove an MY05 yesterday but it had so many prodrive upgrades (suspension, brakes, PPP) that I couldn't really get a true feel for it.

Err sorry thats got to be bo!!ox...

how can it be... the difference between most high performance car is very marginal even of differnt makes & even on a track and at maximum attack... often only resulting in 1/2 second per lap...

the differnce between my Sti and my mates Fq300 is so close to call even on a track and impossible to tell on the road... alot of what people say is simply due to the hype and people being sucked into it...

got to laugh at the explanations of why its better.

''Its mad, wants to go faster round bends as you drive'' .very techniacal that one ;D

''Much more focused and direct even at everyday driving speeds''

Everytime I get bored I just have to come on here and you lot cheer me up big time

Off course this is only my opinion and based upon the roads on which I drive daily, very bumpy / very twisty.

With regard to straightline performance they were both alike.

As they say one mans meat is another mans poison.

Dazza,

I quite agree with your track statement, but in real life on my drives around the lanes the 05 is a much easier drive.(IMHO)

There's a lot more to a car than its lap times. The STi 8 suffered from serious understeer and you only had to take it round a couple of tight corners to work that out. Lots of turbo lag too: spooling up around 4250 revs on the car I tried. Doesn't mean you can't do quick laps in it if you know how to deal with the deficiencies ... but I didn't like driving it.

The MQ-340 is a seriously quick car but it is definitely a bit twitchy. Don't know the technical explanation but I took it round a large roundabout I know well at 60 and it required lots more steering correction than my old classic at the same speed. Seemed to switch beteen oversteer and understeer at the drop of a hat.

The MY05 benefits from the Spec C's suspension set up. Drove a JDM STi and it's much more precise than the 340 and the understeer of the STi 8 is gone. On the basis of this, I decided to go for another scooby rather than switching to an Evo.

Not hype or bo!!ox ... just how I found the cars.

Much better explanations than the original ones ........ I wont disgaree with the fact that the MY03 cars understeer too much.

Thanks for all the info. I have the MY54 already and was looking at getting some new alloys + tyres and the PPP, which is going to cost just short of £4000. After chatting to a subaru salesman I got the impression I could get an 05 plate cheaper than I thought. Depending on what price I could get for my car I don't think it would be TOO much more than 4k to swap mine for the 05 model in which you get a free PPP, better alloys (in my opinion) and better tyres. Anyone got an opinion on this, or am I just crazy in the coconut Again, if I don't get a good price for my car it could all be a pipedream anyway

Ah ha. Unfortunately I think that insurance companies will sting you for an import.
