i was at a local Hill Climb rally today and to be honest i totaly got sucked into the idea of a 2nd car for track use only. These guys had all sorts like formula3, mk1 fiesta's, scoobys, old Beemers, 205's and then your traditional 'hill climb rally cars' which im not too in touch with, but they all went like stink. Any u guys got a car for rally/track use? im wondering what would make a good buy? i got the impression you wouldnt need mega power, coz its mostly about the fun at the end of the day.

I have a 205 purly for track use and its a hoot to say the least. Small budget, small running costs (in comparison) and loads of smiles per miles

iv thought about doing this too. my thinking is to buy a jap import, you can get loads of different high power stuff for dead cheap and if it's not going to be used on the road then you don't have to make any of the changes you usually require to make it uk road legal, saving loads!

Depends on your budget though, a jap import will be expensive to run on the track. My pug tyres cost £35 a corner and wear out every 4th weekend. The scoob costs about £120 a corner and wear out 4 ata a time after every 2/3 weekends. The same or worse can be said about brake pads.
Budget is paramount.

ANyway it works well. If you look at the lower end of the market in relation to lotus 7 replicas you can get a well powered (130-160BHP) outfit for not a great deal of money, and becuase they are so light and cheap to run and maintain (as most are based on ford sierras etc and parts are cheap when you break them, and i did!!).

Engine is pretty much a std 1.9 gti, other than kent cam. A few other small mods to make it go round corners quicker but nothing major league. Still good enough to get it round the ring in 8 mins 52 secs though ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As for budget its best to decide how much money you have to waste in the first year. That will tell you what your donnor car value can be, plus cage, buckets, harness to start with. Then it moves on to suspension, brakes, sticky tyres etc. Add in the number of events your going to do. Entry fee's, tyres, oil changes and extra for bit falling off, breaking and you have an idea of budget.
I would imagine in the first year I spent £4K on the pug, maybe a bit more.
