I have recently bought an '01 WRX with factory fitted stereo (Kenwood 2 DIN Radio) and whenever I go over a 'bump' in the road bigger than a grain of sand the CD 'jumps'.
At first I accepted it as 'part and parcel of owning a Scooby'. Now it annoys the hell out of me.![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/images/icons/icon8.gif)

Is this a common problem with the Kenwood 2 DIN Radio, or is my unit shafted? I thought that all CD players these days had an anti-skip feature, especially a unit by Kenwood.
Thanks.

If your playing copied cd's then they will be more likely to jump than originals.
My old cd player didnt like copies and used to jump all the time but was fine with original discs

It shouldn't jump. I go over 12 speed bumps a day and mine never jumps.
I agree though that copies (sorry, backups) can jump depending upon quality.
Can you return to where you bought the car and see if they can sort it out

My Kenwood (02 JDM) isn't bad - can skip when cornering 'quickly'
but isn't bothered by bumps.
Only problem, being a JDM, is the radio range is a bit messed up, and no RDS. Has a nifty Minidisc player though.

Try this, write your backup disks at no more that 8X or slower and it will reduce if not cure your problem, as your player will be doing less error correction in the first place with out having to do even more because of the vibration.

As above, if it does it with CD-R discs only, then try copying them to a different brand of CD-R, or burning at a different speed or in a different drive. My Alpine HU can't cope with discs burned in my Lite-On CD-RW drive but has no problem with the same discs burned in my NEC DVD-RW drive. Go figure.
If it misbehaves on silver discs too, then there's nothing for it but a new head unit. My old Sony (CDX-C8850) and new Alpine (CDE-9827RR in one car and CDA-9833R in the other) never skip.

NEC DVD-RW is probably the most compatible drive you will find; I use lite-On drives with no problem.
Still think writing speed is you main problem.

What are you upgrading to? Can anyone recommend an alternative, eg. the Alpine?
