LONDON, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Tony Blair moved to end Britain's fuel crisis on Tuesday, saying oil companies were ready to move supplies through blockades with police protection.
"We hope within the next 24 hours to have the situation on the way back to normal though it will take longer than that to be fully back to normal," he told a news conference at his Downing Street office.
He said police had already removed most blockades.
Blair said he understood the grievances of protesters against Europe's highest fuel prices who started blockading refineries and fuel depots last week.
But he added:
"Whatever the strength of feeling there can be no excuse whatever for this type of action which is hurting our people, businesses and emergency services severely.
"Legitimate protest is one thing, trying to bring the country to a halt is quite another," he said.

Blair said he understood the grievances of protesters against Europe's highest fuel prices, however he just didn't give a ****.
Also, if he's so concerned about damaging business why doesn't he just cut the bloody fuel tax, the savings would help just about every single business in the entire UK.
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't every single Police officer who has been interviewed said that the protests have all been within the law? Therefore the police are now moving protesters who are behaving legally???? Hmmm. Seems like big brother is not just a series on Channel 4

The fuel dump in Warwickshire still hasn't let any tankers out since Blair's anouncement.
In the past few hours around 100 bikes have turned up, and are apparently ready to shadow any tankers to ensure that they are for essential supplies only.
The fuel terminal employees seem quite happy to stay where they are atm.
Saw on the news an interview with a Police officer. With reference to the lorry parked across the entrance to the fuel depot:
Interviewer "So this lorry is causing an obstruction?"
Police officer: "Er, yes. That is correct."
I "Don't the Police normally remove obstructions which block the highway?"
P "Er, yes."
I "Are you going to remove the lorry?"
P "Er, no."
I think this about sums-up the general mood:- the lorry drivers, farmers, public (in general), tanker drivers, oil companies nor the Police actually want any fuel to be moved. The only person who wants the blockade to end is Tony. Will he get his wish?

The coverage on the BBC has been 'controlled' by Tone and his Cronies. If they think they can get things back to normal in 24 hours he really has got his head up his ar$e.
Esso and Shell have their two main south east fuel depots within 10 miles of my house and as of last night only 5 tankers had left the Esso site (the one with the policeman mentioned above ) each with a police co-driver and a police escort. Now with the reduction in police budgets, cars and manpower how can they expect to get things back to normal as each depot has at least 200 tankers using it on a 24 hour a day basis in order to meet regular demand. I passed the Esso site on the train this morning and the position was exactly the same as it was yesterday morning. A large lorry parked opposite, but not blocking the gate, and no police presense visible...perhaps they were all out on shot gun duty with the only 5 tankers running in the area
Keep supporting the blockades, Blair and his idiots are going to lose out in the long run, even if they riggle off the hook somehow this time. The election is less than a year away and people will be reminded of the problem throughout the winter if you listen to the truckers.

BBC News 24 this morning '5 lorries were escorted out by police overnight, breaking the blockade'
Over the previous 24 hours 14 lorries had been allowed to leave without any police escort or problem from the peacefull picket. There was no 'Blockade' to break!
The fact that 14 tanker drivers WALKED out was not reported by the BBC!
This is scandalous! The Beeb is supposed to be a news provider, not a PROPOGANDA machine

How many retail outlets for fuel are there in this country? 8,000 or more. At least 3/4's of these are out of fuel. This morning the news is that 50 - 60 tankers left the refineries and fuel depots. How on earth does Mr Blair think things are going to start to get back to normal in 24 hours - 24 days is more like it!

I also am more annoyed with the BBC than anyone else, the coverage has been more like spin doctoring than unbiased news reporting.
'Nurses and Doctors can't get fuel for their cars' etc etc, picketers fault etc etc.
You what ? Tony new about the blockaid on Sunday, that gave him plenty of time to ensure that the fuel that was available was redirected to those with a legitimate need.
I suggest a phone call to one fuel station in every major city saying 'Close the pumps, don't serve anyone unless they can prove they are A GP / Nurse / Fireman etc etc' Would've taken ooooh, about 30 minutes.
Maybe (IMO) Tony wanted people to die / have operations cancelled to divert attention away from the real issue ? seems it was in his power to stop it happening all the time.

Seems some petrol stations ARE giving priority to health workers. Heard on my local station this morning that one had had a delivery and this was what they were doing.
And to whoever wondered why the bikes are running - they can almost all run on LRP. Only a few recent bikes have catalysts and even though they are quite happt on unleaded they don't have silly size holes for petrol filler nozzles. And a lot of garages are out of diesel and unleaded but have loads of LRP....
So, who can make their Scoob run on LRP then?

Must say I noticed distinct pro Tony bias in the BBC reporting on both TV and radio.
BBC TV news last night, plenty of spouting from hospital wards, defenceless old folk/pregnant women etc, petrol station redundancies, minority of militant unrepresentative swine responsible for bringing once proud nation to its knees....drone...buzz...
They nearly had me convinced until I remembered paying 89.9p a litre for SUL approx 6 weeks ago!
Kilroy, bless him, trotted out the stats, 80p a litre here 67p in France, 54p in Spain and the tax take there was less BUT the profit to garage and oil co was higher. So there.
