Question Battery swimming in rain water???

Is there supposed to be a cover over the battery? ive got a my00 uk turbo. not had the car that long, checking oil other day when i noticed the battery (which is sitting in a tray) was submerged in about an inch of water! infact the battery and surrounding stuff looks a right bloody mess!!!!

the rains coming through the drain hole in the bonnet vent, have put abit of tubing through the hole to 'divert' the water, but dont wanna bodge it, anybody tell me whats the best thing to do?

thanks, ben.

Just a thought, but are you absolutely sure that it's rain water.....?

It may be that the coolant system is forcing coolant out through the o/f pipe situated near the battery and throwing water into the battery tray.

Probably not but worth chercking out.

My 99my always had the same problem - often after washing the car. I kept a length of kitchen towel wedged in the tray to soak up the water!
Don't worry, it's not the battery split and leaking (well - probably not!)
