boring question on coolant?

boring question on coolant?
this may sound stupid, but is it ok to top up coolant with just some water or is there a special coolant required, like on some jap cars (MR2) ?

if it's a little low then water will be fine, however if you are talking most of the header tank or more, it would be better to top up with coolant, otherwise winter protection will be compromised.

If you are used to MR2 coolant then it's a red colour !! AFAIK I think its a Toyota re branded 4-life product but may be wrong.
I dropped into my local scooby dealer with small bottle and they gave me some coolant to top up my scooby (leaking hose to the turbo) as a freebe
