this follows on from the link running earlier today about INSURANCE coz looked at all the quotes and tried a few Im with LV and my insurance has just gone up over £130 for no reason
to £1107
so now to the point. One memeber recommended Privilege so done an online quote and they insist on a Tracking device so filled in (quote purpose only) that I had an RAC trackstar plus and my quote was £680 so wondered if anyone knows cheapest place for one.
Ive found www.trackstarplus.co.uk who do it for £379 fitted at your own home inc VAT.
I have read that thieves steal cars and leave them on new housing sites as they are not traceable to most tracker systems and the frequency the police use wont be able to track the car as the site is not yet on their system. THE RAC TRACKSTAR uses SATNAV and the majority of cars are found within the hour.
If anyones interested in the Trackstar maybe we could try a group buy and then all pile down to Privilege for cheap

Yeah it cost about a tenner a month, but that speed safe has saved my license a few times.

Why would the police not be able to track radio waves just because it's a new housing estate? ![Confused](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
And if the radio waves can't be tracked because it's a new housing estate, why would GPS be able to work?

many trackers rely on being able to locate the mobile phone they use to cry for help, find a place where coverage is really poor or better still find the in-car transmitter and disable it (this bit probably goes for trackstar as well) and job done, can't locate the car

Surely this would invalidate your insurance if you got a quote with a tracker then failed to pay the subscription? I have to agree though it is a good debate about whether you would want the car back....start a poll!

I can see why people might not want a car back that's been stolen but this doesn't seem to take into account all the aggro that no doubt comes from waiting to get another car and at what cost?
Re the tracker debate if its one with GPS in and providing they know the car is stolen it should be relatively easy to track the car hopefully before the thieves have had time to disable it and so hopefully getting it back in reasonable condition.
Parking a car on a new housing estate might cause some proplems as the gps mapping software won't actually show the new road but should show the location, anyway the VHS receiver is supposed to be good for 50 miles within a helicopter.
Not sure how good the gps receiver is in tracker may not work properly though if car travels through a poor reception area or takes ahile to register its position.

I'd not want my car back either, hence I declined Privilege's offer ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
GPS trackers are disabled by putting a car into a garage. Just try and use your SatNav inside a garage and see how far you don't get

That is correct but the trackers also use VHF signals which do penetrate containers and underground car parks (What Car did a report awhile ago)

Yep but the thieves don't usually bring a garage with them so hopefully the gps could be used to intercept them before they get to a garage

I have a tracker but am not going to bother renewing the subscription as A-Plan don't require a tracker, I've phoned pretty much all the insurance companies out there this year and they are by far the cheapest (for me) 01635 874 646 (office hours) Jonathan is the guy I've been dealing with or Rob is another good guy to speak to.
My quote so far from them is £699 and no tracker is needed.
Good luck

The only problem is when your cars been stolen and you get it back is that when ever you go to sell it, if the buyer HPi's it, it will come back as stolen & recovered, and you wont get as much as the car should have been worth, I know i wouldnt touch a stolen recovered car and I know it would probably knock a few grand of the asking price.
