Spoiler Brake ???

Spoiler Brake ???
This is a really nerdy question but.........
Would it be possible to make the 22b style adjustable spoiler work as a brake when the stop pedal is applied ??, similar to that of the new Mclaren Merc.
I saw it on top gear and wondered if it would be possible to modify one so that it assisted with the braking on a Scooby.
Pedal pressed and spoiler automaticaly adjusts to produce the resistance.
Just me or any other geeks out there see this a a possibilty ????
Minty.

Possible, but about as much point as p*ssing into a hurricane
Why?
1) It's not in a vast amount of airflow in the first place.
2) The amount of angle you can get on it is pretty minimal.
I'm pretty sure you'll find the main purpose of the 'airbrake' on the merc is to help (mitigate) migration of the centre of pressure when braking at high speed. Again, I'm somewhat sceptical that the ol' scoob's barn door aerodynamics are that sensitive..
The not-so-short version is that when braking speeds well in excess of three figures, there's a lot of aerodynamics going on - as the nose dips and the tail rises, the car gains downforce near the front, looses it at the back - the centre of aerodynamic pressure moves forward and generally gets hurt in stability terms. If the nose touches the floor (unlikely in a road car!) the airflow to the underwing gets cut off pretty suddenly, resulting in some nasty side effects The 'airbrake' on the old F1 roadcar, and presumably the Merc (as it comes from the same gang) was all about controling airflow (presumably reducing pitch at the same time) to reduce the forward migration of the centre of pressure - reducing the likelyhood of a high speed end swapping moment.

Actually Minty.
The thing to get is twin rotorx fusion reverser. You can get these at most LidL stores of failing that through E-bay. It can be linked between the spoiler and a quick flip switch on the dash normally by 1/4" tubing and a few grommets. ( make sure the grommets are brass)
You will need a copy of the latest "Aerodynamics and quantam reverse thrust monthly" published by Nasa. They have a good article about linking similar brake systems into Vauxhall Nova`s.
Good luck mate.... Personnaly I think its a lot easier just pressing the middle peddle myself.

ive got a pair of giant Mickey Mouse gloves, I havnt tried it out yet but would assume that sticking one through sun roof and one out of window will result in a dramatic breaking affect as you hit the tree
