I have them in my Rally car.

but TBH they are more agro than they are worth for the road.
Look very good dont get me wrong, but sometimes look silly if you havent got the Rally cage and seats to go with them.

try rally design, www.raldes.co.uk

That was my next question .....

Are there different fittings to suit cars with roll cages ?? I saw some listed with "Roll cage shoulder Fittment"

I have a Sparco Roll Cage welded in by the way and my Cobra Evolution seats are on order

None of the road cars have harness points as standard and there are serious safety implications to mounting harnesses to the wrong places or at the wrong angle e.g. the shoulder harnesses should be mounted level with your shoulders and not angled down to attach to say the rear seat belt mountings.

Dangerous in an ordinary road car (without a cage)as, in the event of a roll, if the roof comes in you are held in position and can't move away as you would be are able to in a diagonal belt and thus risk having your neck broken.

I have harnesses but they are attached to my removable roll cage system so I only use them when I have the cage installed, which I only do for track days.

Hah, beat me to it!

If your car isn't a competition car then make sure your cage is well padded as you don't want to head it without a helmet in a crash.

If it is a competition car, then i'll get my coat...

and if it aint a competition car you will probably get into trouble re insurance and MOT and if you fit foam on roll bar better make sure its fire resistant

it's not a competition one at the moment simply a replica, however i was planning on padding the cage...thanks for the pointer regarding the fire retardent foam Howy i'll get some of that then. I'm not planning on hitting the cage as long as my harness is tight enough but i'm getting a lid for track days and i'll have the padding on it too for eveyday usage.

Out of interest how and where have you guys fitted your harnesses then to the inside of your scooby's ???? any pics ?

Cheers
Chris.

Minty, not wanting to drag this off topic but where did you go for seats? I'm interested in cobra seats but no idea where to go to sit in them to ensure they fit...? I can't find a supplier who stocks a good selection - I want the Evolution, but suspect I might need the GT (fat b@stard).

Even if you do the harnesses up tight there is a very good chance of banging your head on the cage especially in a side impact as belts stretch amazingly in a crash . I know someone who had this happen to him, hence my broken record approach to this. He survived the crash, but with a fractured skull despite the relatively low speed impact .

The FIA have recently changed the regs on the foam and the rally boys use this now - its a much denser and safer grey foam than the old central heating lagging foam that I used to use in my old rally car back in the 80's . Demon Tweeks and various others sell it.

I'm sorry to hear that

I guess that the WRC teams drive between stages without helmets and so the foam must be of a good enough standard to protect them should this ever happen

Thanks Fat Boy.

I'm hopeful that buying seats with side head protection such as the one below will help avoid this.

Minty have you worked out how you will attach them to the car?

anchoring the harness to the back seatbelt location is generally seen as acceptable. I think it is Shroth that have some technical docs which advise you can go that low (provided it was no steeper than 45º I think).

The whole cage thing is a serious one though, you can get some rear only cages that have side bars down to the footwell, and present no bar for the head to hit. This design is what's normally done in drag cars, specifically to make it safe on the road.

Most cages have a harness bar in anyway. Or you can actually by a harness bar which attaches to the low rear set mountings and the upper seatbelt mounts on the B pillar.

They should fit onto the rear tubing that is welded onto the rear struts, but how do they connect to that ? do they come with bolt kits ??

It looks like something that they would make at the moment doesnt it well with 19"s, doors, boot bonnet, spoiler and a spray job all in the next few weeks then it may start to look like a car again (fingers crossed)

Thats why i'm trying to sort out my fuel tank, brake & fuel lines and harnesses so that i can fit them all when i get it back in a few weeks.

I have a harness cross bar on my cage similar to the one in your photo but it's attached to the diagonal "X" bars that fit between the two side bars ( no one can sit in the back when they are in). My belts have a sort of loop so that you wrap them around the tube and then thread them through a buckle and then forward to the seat.

Safety devices recommended that the shoulder belts should be as horizontal as possible to the shoulder level other wise all sorts of forces work on the seat back in an off and can snap them - obviously a proper seat is better in this regard than the OEM seats.

Bit of T cut and that should be alright, etc,etc

I may have changed my mind, Sabelt six point are about £120 so cheaper than the Sparco ones.

So can anyone on here, or does anyone know of anyone, who can do me a better deal than the £234 for a pair of the six point SABELT available from Peter Lloyd.

Thanks
Chris.
