99 mph on motorway.....any advice?
Hi folks
Oooops, got caught doing 99 mph this evening, told by the friendly policeman that i will have to go to court.
Anyone else been caught doing the same speed....and if so what did you get?
Got caught on one of those hand held radar things.
(4 lane motorway, and i was the only car on there)
Already got 3 points on my licence, so would prefer a short ban really (if it is going to be around 6 points).
p.s......yes i know it was very naughty, and i am a danger to innocent road users, and i should never do that speed etc etc before people post the usual comments regarding this.
Cheers
Gary

4 lane motorway on your own.... plod had nowt else better to do then i take it... barstiges...
mate tbh i don't know for the life of me why people rant on and on about being a danger to others..... you drive a scooby, you don't exactly take it easy and plod along every where at speed limit do you... dont get me wrong 30 mph in a school area or in busy high street yeh i agree but jesus national speed limit still applys at say 3am in the morning on a very quiet road....
i wonder sometimes why they make cars with so much power... when it can't theorectically be used to its full potential on a UK road... oh and i know some of you will think "take it to the track" but some of us can't/won't take it to a track.. sorry to go off topic just annoys me thats all.. hope you just get slapped wrists

What is even more annoying is that they mush have been hiding behind a hedge or something, because i didn't even see them untill they came flying up behind me and pulled me over, then showed me the reading on the radar gun
Bear in mind that this was very near to Gatwick Airport, and i think that with the current events happening they'd have much better things to be doing in these sort of areas.

Agree wth pslewis,
All you'll get is point & fine. Unless of course they include the `Dangerous driving` charge that seam's to get bandied around far too easily these days.
I have noticed though, that a few people I know that have been done for 99mph, swear they were doing more. I honestly think the police say 99mph, so you don't get banned. If you are banned, you can't speed, so you can't get caught, so you can't get fined !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a cinical bugger me.

A friend of mine was doing 93 on an A road with national speed limit and just got 3 points, but the policeman said that 96 mph is a cut off point, and after that speed it has to go to court

Also if you get banned for less than a month some insurance companies only load the same as if it was a SP30 with 3 points. (I know this because this is what happened last time, and because i work in insurance)

Nearly 4 years ago, 97 MPH on the M6
4 points and 235.00 fine.
I pleaded guilty by post and sent a letter apologising to the court for wasting their time.
Seemed to do the trick as a couple of weeks later I saw in the local paper that someone get 6 points and a 500.00 for exactly the same speed.

TBH you could get anything.
There's absolutely no consistency when dishing out any endorsement, especially when going to court.
Some advice I'd give to anyone whose pulled over for any offence from past experience...
1. Never show your licence, even if you have it on you. In the eyes of the law it's an admission of guilt to the alledged offence. It may also sway the decision of the officer if he see's any previous/current endorsements even though they're meant to be impartial.
2. Send away for a new licence once past points are no longer valid. Standard points stay for 3 years, small bans are 5 years. This is helpfull for the above and also for Insurance companies if they ask for licence photocopies.
3. This last one is a touch dodgy. This is if you've been physically stopped and issued a ticket that will result in points, been given the 7 day producer and haven't handed over your licence on the scene. Do not produce to the same police station that the officer who pulled you over is based. Hopefully it won't be local to you but if so try another close by but not the same. Do not produce your licence with the rest of your documents. Instead write down your licence number and give them that saying it's lost and you're waiting a new one to be sent. They will caution you for this which is ridiculous but don't wory about that. They will typically ask for you to bring your licence in once it arrives which you don't ever do.
I have done this before and I never heard back about the offence, now over 2 years ago, which was being pulled for a not so mediocre 3 figure number on the motorway (not in a scooby). Abviously the lack of actual licence must have held up some system when transferring details from one station to the over but as they have my licence number, I hadn't really done anything wrong in terms of producing documents.
I doubt this is full proof and maybe I was very fortunate but I'd say it's worth a go.

In my yoof (10+ years ago) I got caught doing 99.78mph (M74), took the punishment and that was 3 points and a £380 fine. It was quite alot at the time but life moves on....not sure about the court appearance as it's not a license loser if on the motorway.
Expect a £500 quid fine and 3 points or £60 and 3 points depends on whether the judge has 9 or 18 holes to fit in, if your on Friday @ 12'ish sell ya soul to devil cos judge is gonna be p*ssed, specially if the sun is shining.
Good luck just keep ya speed down.

Radar Interference
[QUOTE=Moley_WRX]Cheers mate
Bear in mind that this was very near to Gatwick Airport
QUOTE]
Get them to prove it wasn't radar interference from Gatwick ATC Radar. Get their calibration records for the Gun.
Better just hold your hands up though as they'd hammer you is this failed!

If they go by the book you'll get 6 points & a fine prob £60 + costs, it is strange you've got to go to court for this, but in my experience(in my younger days i was doing 65k+ miles a year & speeding fines were an occupational hazard) it really does depend on the magistrate & whether he had his oats in the morning...
Check out the Pepipoo web site & be straight with them, you'll get some good advice off there...
Good Luck...
