My 1995 WRX gearbox has started to whine when i take my foot off the throttle on each gear change and also when in gear after i have accelerated and let the throttle off.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I think my gearbox is about to die aswell, I also have a Jap WRX 1995, the engine is all new, but the gearbox is original and covered 92,000 miles.
A couple of months ago I got a bad whining and vibration through the steering wheel, so I changed my front two wheel bearings as many opinions told me it was my bearings, and it only whined when hot so people thought it was my bearings getting hot after a run on the motorway at speed.
And I have to say the whining did stop. However over the last couple of weeks the whining has started again and this time it starts when the bloody car is cold and I've just started driving it.
At the moment I'm just driving it until it breaks then I have to think like many other people on scoobynet what box to go for, I'll probably go for a six speed and rear diff from API ENGINES as I'm told the later boxes should be able to take the 400bhp I am currently around at the mo
.
I am checking my brake pads at the minute to make sure its not something silly like pads sticking to my discs as my rears are quite low.
If you search the threads under gearboxes etc there are many on here, good luck and let me know what option you go for !!!!!
Cheers Kevin.

Mine does this a little bit (95 Sti Ra) but only really noticable in 1st when going slow and i lift off the throttle. Doesn't sound out of place though? Dont know if it's something to do with the gearbox/diffs in this car?

Dipster offers very wise advice, buy some castrol syntrax (plenty good enough), replace the fluid in both the diff and the gearbox, and see if that quietens things down.
