Hi
I have one in my race car. They are there, mainly, to allow you to get out of the car before the fire takes hold. A 4L will put out a small fire or it would suppress a large fire to give you time to get out or give marshals time to get to you and pull you out...
In a road car large fires are rare so it would be enough for you I would say. Make sure you take some time positioning your jets, one close to each fuel rail, and one firing over the top of the engine and one near the fuel tank. I have one in my foot well but this is because my feet are very close to the engine bay and a fuel fire would end up in the foot well in seconds. I would also suggest you carry atelast one hand held in the boot - this way you can tackle the fire directly in case the jets are not in the right place.
2 other minor points. Make sure the system has some kind of protection on the switch / lever so a passenger cant activate it accidentally. You would be amazed how often I have seen people pull the fire handle in the paddock and dump the system all over the car. Secondly - if you are in the unfortunate situation to activate the system you are not going to be able to see a thing - the combination of the extinguisher and smoke / steam will mean you might crash as a result. Try to stay calm, slow the car as quickly as possible but in a safe manor - signal - and then activate when its safe to do so. Obviously if you are in a fire ball just pull the handle!! But most people dont realise how much smoke comes out when the extinguisher goes off!!
Hope this helps!

OK so it's been some time but i'm just coming to fitting the kit now.
How does the 'power pack' unit connect to the battery for it's juice ??
there diagram shows no external connections to the system...this cant be right. Has anyone wired one of these in before ?? Thanks
Chris.
