My car is hissing at me when I turn corners
Car is a MY99 Classic UK Turbo
Sounds very much to be power steering related. Tends to be a gentle hiss when a little lock is applied. Always, always happens on a certain corner on my way home, just the correct amount of lock to make it happen.
Normally happens on right hand corners more noticeably, but also does occasionally do it on left hand corners.
Its not a loud annoying sound, but it is present. Does it indicate future problems, or are they best fixed now?

Thats the exact same thing I have on my classic!! Mainly notecable when Im reverse parking and pulling (whenever I use full lock), must be power steering related...guessing...but the belt or pump? ...............Anyone??

Sounds like the steering rack. probably the seal/valves in the pinion housing of the rack. they tend to wear out over time due to contamination in fluid and the fluid degrading over time. Would not worry to much, Plenty of life left in it yet. See this plenty of times on all makes of car.

Thanks for making me feel better about it!
I take it that there is never going to be any issue of not been able to control the car? I assume that the worst that will happen is that I loose power steering and have to use those things in my arms called muscles?

you will probably notice the opposite. I have seen instances of the steering getting really light, this happens mainly on rovers. The contamination can be from the inside of the power steering pipes but also the pump itself. An old trick used to be stick a magnet on the reservouir, this like the ones on some sump plugs will attract any metal particules. Any loss of power assistance will be very gradual and not sudden, but like i said it should last for a while yet
