More importantly; dont buy a car unless the 'importer' can show you the Japanese auction appraisal sheet. A very high percentage of fresh imports have been bought from 'docks auctions' by the 'importers'.....(the ones Ive spoken to dont know where Japan is, let alone how to import a car from there...). These cars are usually the worst cars from the auctions in Japan, spammed up, regularly clocked and then sold (notice that all of the oil change and cambelt change stickers commonly found are missing?). The auction appraisal sheet will show you the grade (either 3.5 or 4: 4 is better but 3,5 can be as good, especially if the mileage is over 100k KMs), and the odometer reading. There are enough people importing cars directly so keep looking until you find one who will show you the sheet; dont believe the ridiculous excuses that they usually use either; they could get a copy of the sheet even if the original was missing from the car and theres no reason not to show it to you (if theyve imported it themselves): if its not there its either from a dock auction or its a poor grade, the appraisal sheet is a selling point... I make a point of including it with the documents when I sell a car Ive imported.
