Default Called Subaru re:- Warranty issues

I Asked about fitting a STI Panel replacement Air Filter and explained that it was a replacement to the OEM made by STI and dropped straight in. Sorry they said it will invalidate your warranty, strange I said the dealership said as long as it was a dry filter and not an oiled one it should be ok. Sorry they said, we overfuel the engine to get the performance out of it and to assist with the cooling so a better flowing air filter will make the engine run leaner and increase the chance of melting pistons.

They wouldn't budge on this I even got into the debate of "over fueling" washing oil down the bores and reducing lubrication which is far worse that a modification the ECU can compensate for but they wouldn't have any of it. I said I would be supprised is throwing a highly flammable liquid down an engine cylinder at the point of ignition would really make any difference in temperature in the milliseconds it would be present for and maybe fitting a bigger water jacket in the engine design and a larger radiator would have been a more orthadox solutuion. They said that is the answer, so live with it !

Well, I have a STi air filter fitted to my MY04 STi PPP.
I went on a RR day a couple of months back and it wasn't running lean according the the graphs and the RR operator.

Martin - I agree

I jumped on the bandwagon due to the fact that all the dealers around here, dont have a problem with them being fitted

It was Subaru UK I called after the dealer gave me the number to call them to make sure. I was nice as pie and polite, I only went n to detail etc when they were adament that was the ruling and it wouldn't change.

I now have an STI Panel filter I cant use unless I invalidate my warranty. Not overly happy as they aren't cheap and I know from previous performance cars it does help it breathe better.
