Advice needed on P1
Hi im considering buying a P1, but dont really know much about them. Are they all the same colour blue? or are some world rally blue and others sonic blue? are they prone to piston slap?, are they more reliable then the Jap import sti's?? What are the pro's and cons compared to a Sti.
Cheers for the advice

mate i have a p1 never regret a single day of it
they are all sonic blue, there have been a few bottom ends going on them some at 40k some at 65k but its only an engine just like the rest of them, doesnt realy make a difference wheather they are modified or not as there are some with 90k on the clock and still hasnt missed a beat.
the only other thing to watch is the dreaded fuel 'det', which again is the same on any scoob.
the best type of p1 to buy would be an enthusiats car as they would have taken reel good care of it, there are a few for sale on the p1woc and some of these are fitted with full defis and knock links etc to keep an eye on things.
hope this had cleared a few thing up for you?....sorry iam unable to comment on the sti.
cheers matt

Cheers for that mate, its just some look a different blue on the autotrader, maybe there just not polished, as for engines i agree, if it blows its the perfect oppertunity for uprated internals,

I haven't actually owned one, but my friend had one for five years. Fantastic cars and I would definitely have one if I didn't live in London and didn't have a 1 year old son (4 doors required!)
A few points:
- Try and get one with less than 40,000 miles on the clock. Subaru will approve all of their used cars up to 80,000 miles, but they will only cover the P1 up to 60,000 miles - there has to be a reason for that!
- Buy one WITHOUT performance modifications - if it has been modified make sure a professional remap has been carried out and it is running a reliable amount of power...
- Brake upgrade would be nice
- Make sure you can live with the front splitter - I live in London and the constant grounding on speed bumps and in car parks would really get on my t!ts
- The gearboxes are a potential big bill as well, so watch out for that...
It all sounds rather negative, but as with any car you just need to watch out for the well known problems...
Mark.
