Mitsu migration to Scoobaroo....
#1
Hi,
just joined your site with a view to purchasing a scooby...obviously otherwise why join. I want to spend £12,000 but can go to £15,000 (don't tell the wife).
Now I don't know much about the scooby specs but I know I'm not in 22B territory.
Some useful advice as to what spec to go for would be great.
I'm in the north-east, so know doubt that will mean about 2 people will reply (their just ain't the money up here lads).
I am looking to buy NOW, but looking through Top Marques most of the scoobys are in the south(no doubt they will be higher spec for the south as well...hey only joking).
Seriously though, I would appreciate some help here. Also which flavour do I go for...GREY or UK...after reading the insurance threads I suppose UK is the order of the day.
cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,
Just a few bits and piece about 2nd hand UK spec imprezas. The money you are going to spend will probably get you a 97/98 model. Make sure you get the facelift model as these had the white dials and rally style seats (with the wings on them). For 15K ypu may even get a 99 model which has the phase 2 boxer engine.
All UK spec subarus (supplied by a UK dealer) come with a three warranty which is transferable (as long as the servicing has been done every six months or 7,500 miles which ever is the sooner).
You may be able to get a later model which has been imported from europe as UK spec. You will get a later model but they only came with 1 years warranty. Recently, until the stock went, they were only around 15-16K to import .
A grey import will be officially turned away from you local dealer. Check the insurance for a UK car as well .
The new impreza is due out soon (Nov 2000) which will affect current models prices. If you want to know more about specs, changes, ltd editions have a look at the FAQ on the SIDC site (www.sidc.co.uk).
Hope this helps

You might want to ask exactly what the car has had done to it. To acheive anything like a *genuine* 228 at the wheels on a UK car would require some *serious* mods... and not just a bolt-on mods. 228 tops at the *flywheel* sounds more like it if it's had the usual exhaust/filter mod.

<B>Thanks for the info guy's, currently going blind due to reading the 8 pages of imprezza's for the 100th time.
Going to view one today, it's only an 1995 M reg, UK car for £8,000ono. It's a bit older than I wanted but I thought it is worth a look, especially as it's local to me.
Also guy rekons its dynoed at 228ish..@ the wheels, I thought the UK cars of that age came with 208bhp up top...equating to about 140-150 @ the wheels(or was it 245bhp up top on some models?). Now if it's running 228 @ the wheels thats about 280-300 up top(roughly)... a serious upgrade.
What do ya think?
cheers
