All I know is that I've been holding out on a price reduction before buying. The dealer phoned this morning and said that there would be £1000 coming off the price from next month and that they'll get back to me this afternoon with a quote

Well, the rumour is that prices in Holland are going up by 10000NLG, or about £3k, taking the import price to 19ish grand (v rough figures!) This is more like the differential with other manufacturers.

Here's a theoretical situation. Thell magazines the new spec (aircon/17" alloys/...) and make no announcement for the price. Let magazines think of a price for the new car given that it's a seriously upgraded car. After a while leak news that the car will be *cheaper*. Very very good PR for free, also gets consumer buy-in too as no-one will be put out by buying the car only to find out that it's cheaper in two week's time...

If it's true, my congratulations to Subaru for a sensible move well timed and an excellent piece of marketing.

Nick.

Red face

I have just had a call from my local dealer who has informed me that list prices are being reduced by £1000 as from next month. Has anyone else heard this?

£1000?

In the face of Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda etc. making reductions of 10-20+% that is frankly pretty insulting of Subaru.

Was this info from Subaru to the dealer directly or was the dealer making any assumptions?

Question

Are we talking about a price reduction to help dealers selling the last of the MY00 or the price of the new MY01 here ??

Think I'll stick with my 5.5 grand saving on list from Holland thanks.

Cool

If the new turbo drives better than the MY00 I can live with the Chryser Neon/Toyota Corolla looks.

It's a shame that they're not doing more with the price reductions but the Scooby is still a fantastic car, and good value for money.

Let's face it, if the other car firms weren't dropping prices we wouldn't be so depressed about the lack of reductions in Subaru prices.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like the concept of being ripped off but the Subaru is still good value for money. Bang for bucks not much else comes close (even with the other cars at their new reduced prices).

There is no saving from Holland anymore. I was planning to buy a new Impreza.

I have just been quoted £18,500 for a 5 door by a dealer in Holland, £3000 more than I paid for one 9 months ago. If the price is to come down by £1k in the UK, that makes the difference only £3200. Taking into account going getting it, lower residuals, no 3 year warranty, no alarm, then that kills the import option for me.

As Gazzer says, the EU import option is not quite as tempting any more. Even I'd be sorely tempted by the UK route, especially considering that there may be teething troubles with a new model...

Again, congrats to Subaru for sorting this out. Though I guess the Dutch readers of the board may well want to lynch us as prices are almost aligned but the tax situation isn't...

Perhaps the Dutch could redress the balance by importing some petrol from th UK and only paying Dutch fuel tax?

We are talking about the current MY00 model. No details on new shape yet, but apparently dealers have a meeting in West Bromwich on 10th October - can only assume info will be more available after this.
