Angry Oi!! Clarkson ...... NO!!!

Look what Clarkeson has said in his EVO IX write-up!!

"Consider, then, that while the Evo IX does all this, it is also keeping you safe with one of the most sophisticated four-wheel-drive systems ever put on sale. Finally, take into account that its design has benefited from more than 10 years of competition in, and often at the front of, the world rallying scene.

It is at about this time that the Subaru Impreza lobby will rear its tediously predictable head. While the Impreza is similar in design it is dramatically different in execution and no truly serious driver faced with the choice between the two could ever drive home in a Subaru. A show-off? Yes. A driver, no."

Cheeky git!!!

This new EVO must be a lot better than the last one then???? coz in the last series of top gear i think almost all the presenters said they would choose the impreza over the evo if they had to buy one.

Like the earlier post he said he'd choose the Scoob over the Evo every time and did'nt know why, Richard Hammond said he'd always preferred the Scoob

This was in 2003 though I believe

Think I read this article in the Sunday Times Driving section as recognise the comments, wasn't Clarkson but some other bloke, so well know in fact his name escapes me. It was a bit of a comparison between an EVO IX and an Exige 240R?

I've always thought that the EVO is a much more grown-up car. Especially for the track.

Yes, the Subaru is good (I love mine), but the EVO looks so much more refined. Now I have to admit that I haven't driven one yet. And unless it's on a pre-arranged track day, or on a test drive when I'm looking for a new car, I very much doubt I will.

Why?

Well, in searching for a new car, the Evo isn't on my list for one very poignant reason - my wife (as we both pay for and will drive the car) hates the look of the EVO. So it doesn't even get a look in. I have to also admit that looks-wise, I have to agree with my wife (although the MY06 has changed THAT opinion!!!! What an abomination!)
Don't get me wrong - I'm sure the EVO is a much better car in every sense, but in my case, you either like it or not.

Besides if Clarkeson did write the review - I'd take it with a pinch of salt, sa I thought he wasn't allowed into a car for 6 months with his injury......

I think it boils down to a) price and b) the fact that the scooby has allways been the more day to day friendlyer version out of the box. Every review says that from the box, the evo is the true car, the scooby is the one that is nearly a fast but a better day-to-day bet

That seemed like a cheap dig at the Impreza with no real facts or opinion to back it up.

Subaru don't sell a car to compete with the 320 at the moment. Unless they've brought out a 30 grand tricked out version of the STI that I don't know about.

A 26 grand base model STI shouldn't be compared to a 320. Simple as.

Went to see a fq320 today in red - i would have to say, apart from the slighty lary rear lights perhaps, it looks a heck of a lot more grown up than the STi .....im not dissing subaru (i had a classic sti)

My redundancy payout this time would not stretch to a R/C Evo, let alone a full size one! Money aside, yes I could be tempted by a IX
