I found the 260 strangled in performance, in comparison to a "full fat" evo. It has 2 cats in the exhaust system with would contribute to this and the induction could be better. I also didn't like the 5 speed gearbox, but some do.
Coming from a WRX you'll find the car bigger, and more exclusive you'll see less of them.
The Mitsubishi engine in the 260 is still an Evo engine though so for the price of a PPP you could be upto 330bhp with out much bother.
WRC Tech have had one upto 370bhp with a years warranty.
Servicing and petrol will be high though, If you leave in standard tune I think you'd be safe on normal unleaded, but I think the service intervals are still 4.5K miles.
Depreciation is bad I've seen some selling for 16K being only 6 to 8 months old.

EVO
Looked at Evo's on paper when I bought my first scooby back about 1999. It was the servicing and running costs that put me off. Checking an re-calibrating Active Yaw Control system - what the hell was that all about????
something else to keep you handcuffed to the dealerships??? Its now called Super AYC so probably more sensors to check and calibrate!!!
On the pros - you dont see a lot of cheap second hand examples being driven round by third rate drivers, and I think the VIII looks better than the new (2006???) impreza.
There is a recall on some models i believe (CT9A-0200201 to CT9A-0206345) - a pin can fall out of the gear shift lever making it impossible to change gear. Great excuse when a MY00 driver claims to have spanked your *** away from the lights!!!!
I did find the dealers wanted to agree a price and almost wanted a deposit from me before letting me loose on a test run. I was about 24 at the time - and appearances do deceive sometimes.....

I have one of these running at around 340bhp due to a miltek full system and re-map. I looked at a few uk spec STI's before buying and there is no comparison. With the JDMS you get more for less as opposed to the uk spec which is less for more
