Is it worth doing then, how does your car drive now and what bhp and torque increase did you see?

All hear say really....
I had the de-catted downpipe fitted and noticed a major hesitation at around 2800-3000 rpm, took it to Bob who mapped this detination symptom out and also re-wrote the whole map from scratch.

Throttle responsiveness at 200-500 rpm lower in the rev range is the greatest benefit.... making the car much more flexible in everyday use..and quicker too.
Peak boost was increased from 1.25 to 1.55bar

So would you recommend doing it?

What other mods could i do before a remap?

Mine is a uk 97 with a full decat system, blitz dump valve, hks air filter and a dawes device. Ive just ordered a fmic too. Im looking at taking it up to around 300bhp.

Bob is good, but a long way to travel for you.

Andy Forrest is in your area (sort of). He's in Edingburgh and will do a decent job. Recommendations for him are abundant. I'm not sure of today's price. But £750 ish will get you a road-mapped Power FC. Another £100 will get you the FC Commander on top.

You'll be fine with 300bhp with your set up, unless there are any major problems.

There are quite a few alternatives, but I get a free holiday in Great Yarmouth for every recommendation of Bob and Andy. :P

You cant re-map a 1997 car; you'll need a replacement ECU. I'd suggest an A'Pexi PowerFC, fitted and mapped by Andy Forrest for £750. Im going to start asking the bloke for commission at this rate.....

You can; but I understand that youd be better off with a replacement ECU..... I will stand to be corrected though.

depends how many mods you got simon. if its just an exhaust and intake, maybe different cams, std ecutek remap is fine and best money/power ratio. If however you have fancy porting, cams, fmic, strange exhaust, odd turbo, and want every last drop of power then get an M800 Motec at £2000 to make the most of the mods...... mmmmmm spark duration....... mmmmmmm individual cylinder fueling mmmmmmmm arrrrgggggggggg

I e-mail xtreme scoobys about a re-map
this was part of the reply,
"After this period I would then recommend an exhaust system (though keeping the car road legal) & an Ecutek remap. The map would cost £500 plus VAT & in conjunction with an exhaust sytem would see 270/280 bhp & vastly improved mid range power."

You can trim the fuelling for each cylinder with the A'Pexi PowerFC cant you.....?

Ive heard a number of times that the ECU-TEK for the '00 Classics isnt fantastic and when you consider that the PowerFC is available mapped for only a few pounds more, it seemed to make sense. I think that Id go for the A'Pexi and keep it, up until Id developed the engine beyond its capabilities.

We've already discussed that he can't have a EcuTeK remap. A ScoobyECU or a replacement ECU is the only answer.

Motec - mmmmmmmmmmm

If you re-read the thread you will see that we are now discussing a MY'00 car.

I had TSL map, my MY00 using EcuTek, with the following mods:

VF23 turbo,
APS TMIC,
550cc Injectors
STi panel filter
Dump Valve
Full Decat exhaust system
Uprated Fuel pump

Couldnt tell you how much BHP it had, and I didnt really care as the car felt fast enough and out accelerated my mates Type RA so it was fast enough for me.

The only problem is watch out for the UK gearbox as it didnt take long to damage it with that sort of power.

Had them done the day before, then took a slow drive upto TSL in the morning. Then a fast drive home when it was mapped.

Has anyone used 'TheRacingLine' for a remap? They are near me, so convenient, but 2 things are putting me off.

1. Their experience is an unknown to me. I know they have been in business only a short while but I also know that Conrad is well thought of on here.

2. The prices seem on the high side when I can get one of the regular group buys for £500 + vat.

What do you think, should I travel and use someone else or have you got knowledge of them that makes it worth me going there? (MY04-WRX)

(sorry for the hi-jack)

depends who does the mapping for them. Pat often helps out these companies and he is well known.

Simon - not sure on the individual cylinder fueling on the apexi - andyf could answer that but havent seen him round much lately. As for Ecutek 00 not being "fantastic" this is erroneous as far as Im aware as a mapper will often reflash the ECU with a different code base - say from 03, so it wont be 00 ecutek any more! A dedicated mapper will go through this with you though
