Question Most effective way of selling a car?

In peoples experience what is the best way of selling your car privately? I have never done it before as I have always done P/X's but not this time. I will obviously put it on the Autotrader website, not magazine at first, but is there anything else? Is it worth putting it in the mag as well? I can only think of Ebay and I dont fancy that. I dont think selling on forums such as this one is too good either.

If it hepls im selling a Impreza Terzo with a ridiculously low mileage (27,000 miles).

Cheers

Mike

I used Pistonheads web site to sell mine. But it was a Classic Scooby so niche market and hard to sell private. As you are selling Terzo I would try Pistonheads. Mine sold in 4 weeks or less. It is also free, just need to register, the forum is good also.

Unhappy

I have just tried to sell my car privately, I advertised on here, scoobycity and motortrader and the local paper but with no response. I was selling a MY04 Subaru Impreza WRX with only 9000 on the clock.

I have had to take the garages offer of 12000 as Im emigrating so need to get rid of the car asap, (gutted) so they got a great deal

Cant offer you any advice babe, just if you are not in a rush, try every option possible. I also sold a van on ebay and the paper and sold it straight away from the paper but again no response from ebay.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,
Have you put an ad in the 'for sale' section on here? Many cars sell on here, and it doesn't cost anything. Do a detailed ad, include whther the car has full dealer or specialist service history, with or without invoices, how many owners, extras, etc! Also, very important to take some NICE photos. I've seen cars for sale with awful photos, some only showing half the car, or even taken at night! As for Autotrader, just do the 2 weeks for £15.99, forget the mag, waste of money. At least on the net you can have over 100 words and 4 photos! Join SIDC website and put an ad there, also Pistonheads, www.pistonheads.com, then wait for the enquiries, which you will get! And of course, I nearly forgot that famous auction site, who will only charge you £6 for 6 big photos and as many paragraphs as you like! You can have a 7 or 10 day ad on there. It's better to start at a price close to what you want without a reserve, Reserve's put people off, plus they are costly! Good luck!

Thumbs up

I'd try the top marques as well - covers autotrader website & covers the whole of the Uk (unlike the autotrader which is regional areas only)

Most effective way of selling a car?
---------------------------------------

Same rules apply as always have ........... price it right and advertise widely - this is the ONLY way I know to actually sell a car.

Playing with a high price and then dropping is a recipe for disaster, hit them HARD and get more than one buyer .................... cars advertised like this sell in hours!!

Good luck!

Pete

ps. Think yourself lucky its not a MicaPink one!! Horror stories abound when trying to sell one of those!!

Well it worked for me

I put mine on Piston heads, SIDC, 22B, Midland Scoobies and it sold in about 8 weeks. I wasn't in a rush so started higher to see what happened and dropped it and it sold

I didn't bother with autotrader as there were loads for sale plus I didn't want tyre kickers ringing making stupid offers or just coming round for a ride. HAd one or two like but sold ok in the end to one very satisfied customer

Yep, realistic pricing is always the best option. Not dirt cheap, but not forecourt money either. The old motto "Your first loss is always your best loss" seems to always ring true when selling cars.

Edited to add - eek, i've just agreed with Mr Lewis !
