Most are pushing the warranty or are out of warranty, these are now 5 year old cars, most people who bought these new are moving on to something different.

I've noticed this too. I felt that perhaps it was a result of the number of blow ups that have occured with P1s at or around a certain mileage.

However, a rebuild doesn't always make a car more expensive and a P1 with a rebuilt engine might be quite a good buy if buying a long-termer. The insurance as far as I'm aware is much cheaper than the equivelent Type R.

echo tony

you can extend, but P1 warranty has gone up to £1200 and this is a nail in the coffin for a few people. all other classics a lot cheaper. also not letting you extend after 60K. there has always been quite a few on auto trader for a year or two now.

MY00 (not just P1) seem to pop more than others it has to be said.

I understand that its ONLY the P1 that the warranty has gone up to £1200 and max 60,000 miles (all others circa £800 iirc) says quite a lot about Subaru UK's faith in this particular model unfortunately. Still a nice car though.

A certain mileage on a P1 is somewhere between 10,000 and 100,000 miles unfortunately - i.e. the engines go when they feel like it.........it seems

Just like to add that my mates P1 has had a new gearbox, new bottom end and is now in the garage for a new Turbo which went about 5 miles after picking the car up from having the bottom end done.

Luckily all done under warranty.

Perhaps he should let it warm up before caining it aspecially after just getting the bottom end done, some people just don't know how to look after machinery. 5 miles is nowhere long enough to warm an engine up.
Ady.

No he wasn't caning it (I asked that). Picked the car up just before 5pm and travelled home in rush hour traffic, he was not on boost for any of the journey. My guess is that the garage didnt flush the engine clean before reassembling and swarf has found its way into the turbo bearings. All imho of course.

nice assumption there ADY

I wouldn`t be surprised if the turbo went when the bottom end went, it just went unnoticed due to a bigger problem

I hope you're right Abbylad and that he has a trouble free motor from now on. But I do hear of people having further trouble after engine rebuilds - and cleanliness always comes to mind.
