Default Impreza vs audi quattro

My fork lift instructor bought his audi quattro in today to show me, 21 years old 2.2 turbo 215bhp.

really nice car, known for its rally abilities.. reckons he'll kick my ***, well as he's a rally driver I'm gonna believe him but I still argue the Impreza driven correctly would beat the audi

what are your thoughts

Weight distribution was always a problem for the early quattros, what with their straight 5 lump stuck out ahead of the front wheels (no hint of a crumple zone behind the bumper! )

The Gp B cars ended up having as much as possible shoved into the far end of the boot to counter-balance everthing.

No idea how they handle, but the engine note istantly makes me think of early 80's GpB rallying

Thumbs up

If it's 21 years old it's likely to be an early car with a fixed 50:50 power distribution, tends to understeer in extremis. So the twistier the road the bigger the advantage for the scooby.

The soundtrack will be nice though!

I have driven the TT, and my mates chipped RS2 which seemed quick as a passenger, took it for a spin and my sti ppp would destroy it no problem, the only thing he would be seeing is my number plate...getting smaller.....

Angry WHF I did

To give a option new / old in the 4 wheel drive system okay, fella, AND IN CASE YOU MISSED THE POST IT SAID IMPREZA VS AUDI QUATTRO, Quattro = 4 wheel drive which the TT 3.2 DSG is, try reading before for leaving this kind of pathetic response, I have read a few of your other posts on this forum, and to say you have some sort of little mans syndrome would be an understatement.

Forums are about giving and taking advise not about throwing your opinion down peoples necks, or more to the point being vulgar, offensive, and disrespectful

You see alot of comments of this nature on forums from spotty kids driving 1.1 fiestas, I dont expect it from an adult let alone a scooby driver.....

I am sure that I read somewhere that if Quattro is with a capital "Q" it refers to the original Coupe as since then all other models have been officially used the quattro name to inicate 4 wheel drive. eg Audi Allroad quattro etc etc.

Anyway mate used to have a Quattro (capital Q!!) and it really used to like to understeer - even in the snow you could never get a 4 wheel drift let alone oversteer.

Great cars for their day though. Great sound too.

impreza vs audi quattro

Well I have a MY03 WRX STi JDM and until recently I had an 1987 Audi quattro 2.1 turbo.

The scoobs is 300bhp+ and the audi was circa 200bhp. The scoob would just destroy it. To be expected really. A correctly set up quattro (when I say quattro I mean a proper quattro, not your modern fakes like TT's and A4's ) running 200bhp is surprisingly a very competent motor.

The thing that amazed me about the 18 year old quattro was it handled the UK roads and bends much better than my scoob. So I could drive the Audi with more confidence. The scoob has JDM suspension and the jap roads must be smooth as a baby's bum. Sadly that forced me to upgrade the suspension on the scoob

If I was travelling to the Nurburgring I would want to drive in the Audi (wonderful mileage muncher) but once at the Nurburgring I would want to be in the scoob.

Not wanting to take sides - just stating what I think I remember !

Mind you puncuation and spellin in forums could easily lead too quattro confuzion.

Did I spell that correctly ??

Having driven a 2.2 Coupe Quattro, standard UK Turbos (and WRXs) and JDM WRX STi... For the first two - the driver with the larger cohonees (sp?) or talent would win (or the one who didn't mind destroying his clutch, tyres, brakes, etc. to prove a point). The WRX STi would show-up the Quattro though, both in straight line speed and in handling.

IIRC (it was a while ago that I drove the Quattro) the Audi had loads of grunt and grip, but felt like a big heavy car. The handling was great for its day, but lacked the lightness and finesse that drivers of a Scooby would be used to. Still a blindingly good car though and the sort of thing I would have killed for at the age of 21!

Slightly off the original topic but ..

If Audi hadnt developed the Quattro for rallying in the late 70's early 80's and it hadnt proved faster that the MK2 Escorts and Talbot Sunbeams etc of the time, would the impreza exist at all ??

If 4 wheel drive hadnt proved successful in rallying and the Quattro road cars proved turbo 4wd's to be reliable road cars, would subaru have devloped the Legacy/impreza for rallying or would subaru still be making those farmers pickup things they made in the early 80's ??

Without the Quattro would we (as a forum) cease to exist ???? !!!!

The Quattro has the syncro 4wd system, not the quattro 4wd system. Syncro 4wd system = inline engine, quattro 4wd system = transverse. It gets very confusing because the A8/A6 quattro use syncro 4wd system! Very confusing.

First off I think you need to take a look around.. go on.. a little more, you'll notice your actually posting on a forum. People don't tend to get upset about what other people post unless their losers themselves.

If you would like to point out any of this "little man" posting you claim I do, I'd be happy to give it a read.

I'm sitting here thinking hmmm, what kind of a Fello is this minted_aye, the only thing I can come up with is old. Whether is be physically or mentally. Relax before you give yourself a heart attack, or better yet have a heart and let me relax.

To be fair, the original poster clearly stated that he was comparing it againt the old quattros

Although no need for the expletives, I agree. Some people here just love shouting and ranting

i followed a TT, sorry i mean quattro (), of about the same age last night, nothing serious just making some noise so we could appreciate each others engine note. The quattro sounded fantastic i can't confirm whether the driver was fully opening the throttle or the engine spec but i had to back off very quickly on wide open throttle to avoid a rally sandwich (tek3 MY00 wagon btw).

Oh and minted_aye, I’ve gotta say you seem to have over reacted in a most amusing way; ta

Red face and to be fair

to be fair I did not compare it to the Audi tt, but the rs2, and to be personally honest I have driven s4, rs4 and rs6, but who care's I am afraid if I had driven a 21 year old Quattro, if I did I doubt I would had remembered it. I thought the request was regarding the Audi Quattro system, and I apologise for not interpreting it as you have done, obviously I have a lot to learn from the masters here on the Scooby forum, how about this as a post has any one driven a 21 year old 2.0L Quattro turbo ? As the thread instead of impreza vs audi quattro

god i love this forum! it always ends up as a slagging match by the end of the 1st page of most threads...in some ways the most intolerant forum i have ever been involved with. i know its probably the minority and i am not tarring everyone with the same brush there, just there does seem to be a lot of hostility on here.

anyway..

So we agree the above mentioned is a fantastic car and for its age it was amazing, it is also the reason the 4wd turbo cars came to life.

I've been around forums for a long time and this one clearly has the highest **** count

Imagine me saying that in my big man voice
