Anyone know where to find in-gear times for a UK classic ?
Had a re-map and de-cat on my 98 UK Turbo Wagon last month at Roger Clarke Motorsport. Lovely noise and seems to go well, with in-gear times for 50 - 70 mph of 2.8s (ish) in 3rd and 3.8s (ish) in 4th. I thought I'd do in-gear times to save the transmission and my pocket.
BUT, I didn't do any times before I took it in - it was a bit of a last minute thing - and I cannot find any figures for this standard UK turbo. Anyone know where they lurk ?
Thanks, Tim

They recommended (and I had) a full decat, a remap by Bob Rawle with a links ecu, a cone filter and an uprated petrol pump. The bad news is that it was nearly £2.5k...... However, I had test driven an 05 WRX, and an STi in July, and thought the WRX a little "soft" with less feel and certainly no faster than mine, and the STi went well as long as it was hustled along above 3000rpm. Not as relaxing a ride when you want it IMHO. I still think neither look as good as my old silver Wagon, so I thought I'd spend shedloads less money and have a liitle more fun. I asked for it not scare small children with the noise, and I think it is about right - throaty etc but not antisocial until you really press on.
I think the times are reasonably accurate as I tried several times in opposite directions down a local lane, and went from 55 to 75 to allow for speedo error. I'm not sure if it means anything, but it pulled away well from a Clio Sport from 40 up to ........until I backed off eventually, on the way to Noroflk last week.
I suspect it is all down to power/weight ratio. A lot of money on an old car, but I am pleased with the results. Usable but fairly brutal when needed.

Matt, thanks for the figures. Could you tell me the date of the Autocar issue, please, and I can try to track down the article - mainly to gloat and to reassure myself it was money well spent.
Tim.
