Assuming you were in a 30 mph zone, and you were only 3mph over you should be ok

If you were only doing an indicated 33 mph then you were actually only doing 30-31 mph as all speedos over read by up to 10% so you should be ok.
Also 43 on speedo = approx 39-40 mph, 53 = 48-49 mph, 63 = 57-58 mph, 73 = 66-67 mph. and so forth.

LOL, well said......

If the flash was red it is a forward facing camera that takes pictures of oncoming traffic (I know, I've been flashed and done by a fixed one near Silverstone). The flash is red so that it doesn't blind the driver, which would obviously be dangerous.

You shouldn't have been done if you were only doing 33mph though.

Cameras "save 100 lives a year"
A report published today claims that accident rates on roads with cameras show a 40% cut in the number of people killed or injured. There are now 5,000 fixed speed cameras in England and Wales. Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said: "...total fines receipts were £68m of which £54m was spent on running costs of cameras...in the overwhelming majority of cases cameras have worked."

Don't even get me started on gov stats!!

Have a look at safespeed.org for a critique of such figures.
