Default JAP IMPORTS

Im looking to buy my first import after having a few uk cars i.e rb5.p1.wr1
i have recently sold my wr1 as i needed the money to go towards a house .
This means that my budget for a scooby has reduced bit time.
Can any one tell me what things i should look out for when buying a import .I am looking at a silver wrx sti L reg which has done only 29000 miles.(which seems very low ) from ICM DIRECT OF READING .has anyone dealt with this company before . am i worrying over nothing when it comes to an import.

any help would be gratefully recieved

dont know about the company you are referring to and 29k does seem a bit low. But if its genuine then thats a bargain.

I have an import of the same age. No problems that you dont get with a UK model to date. Just remember unless you get it remapped, use octane booster. I do purely as piece of mind, you do notice the performance difference if you only use super unleaded.
Bonuses are as standard they are quicker, better brakes and suspension.
Only downside is the shorter gearing. Also they seem to come with more as standard (e.g. climate control even on my my93) and body colour mirrors etc.

Can be heavy on the pocket if you do long motorway runs over 85-90. At 90 i am on nearly 4.5k it starts to drink fuel. Thankfully I use mine as a second car so its not too bad.

See the auction appraisal sheet; itll confirm the odometer reading and the auction grade. Grade 4 is the best youll see, but its rare; a 3.5 should be a reasonable car at this age too. If they cant show you the appraisal sheet then either they didnt import it (and its came from a ****e dock auction); or they dont want you to see its sale grade / odometer reading.....

You won't be able to re-map a 93 car so you'll need a chip change which
can then be re-mapped for instance, if you start modding.

I would certainly run on Optimax if possible along with an Octane booster
untill the chip change/re-map can be done.

On a 93 car the brakes are 2 pot and ****e to be honest, if your going to
mod your money will be well spent on upgrading the front brakes to 4 pots.

Check for signs of Turbo wear on start up (Blueish smoke) and after a good run,
check the filler tube behind the nearside light for signs of bubbles or if it has
thrown the coolant out over the battery, this will show signs of head gasket failure = big money.

Apart from that and the obvious, body condition etc they are a very agile car

Good luck
