wr1oc site hacked again
The wr1oc site has been hacked again. All the posts have been deleted, so I hope they have a backup on tape!
Does SN have adequate protection in place?

This website is based on the VBulletin software, which is a paid-for software (except for charities etc.). I think they go the extra mile to make it more secure.
The problem normally comes when people change the basic phpbb software extensively. When a security update is required it means you have to go through the complete procedure of adding all the extras to the update. Therefore, many people don't do it immediately on phpbb releasing a security update.
The WR1OC appears to have been running the phpbb 2.0.10 version. There have been 7 updates since then - at least 2 of them for major security bugs.
Most of these hacks are generated by a program that scans a search engine or by other similar means. Forums are rarely targetted specifically though. For more information do a search for the people who hacked the site, it's sometimes quite interesting to see how many they have done.

Yeah forums are easy access to the servers hosting them, due to the need for interaction between the user more so than with a normal site security as mentioned above is difficult..
Simple hacks like making the avatar bigger can open holes.
