Just a quickie - new WRX Vs. Octavia VRs.
Here is a quick one for you.
I work on a former US air force base and have the luxury of 2 miles of tarmac to play on when ever I like, a colleague has recently bought a brand new Scooby 5 door WRX and has challenged me to a drag race.
My car is a Skoda Octavia VRs, remapped to 220 bhp and 230 lb/ft (front wheel drive)
The Scoob is a brand new 5 door WRX as standard off the shelf without the PPP.
Am I going to get my *** whipped ?
I reckon the key to my success is a good start.

if his scoob is new he will also suffer badly from the engine being tight (need >6k miles and more like 12k before giving best) even then if you don't loose out too much at the start (scoobs ace is 0-60) you'll at least stay with him and possibly pull a little.
It sounds like he's one of the many people who buy a scoob (even STI's) and think they'll muller everything else on the road, he's probably in for a suprise. Just be ready for the excuses ('I'd have had you in the twisties..!' lol which he wouldn't if it's standard)
Does he realise your ORS is remapped..?
Should be interesting, any chance you can get it video'd, esp. the guy's face after..!
Keep us informed...

Has no-one driven an Octy?
You'll destroy him as long as you get off the line quickly (ie not sat spinning)
Your Octy will have loads more power at the wheels.
BTW Newage Scoob driver
Took a vRS out for a test drive and was quite impressed apart from it seemed a little breathless at high revs

If its over the full 2 mile you may beat it. Still close though.
Over 1/4 mile I doubt it, if he dials in 5K revs and then lets go of the clutch pedal you will need more than 220bhp to regain the startline distance he has just gained (about 3 car lengths).
Let us know how it goes.

I just can't see a 220 bhp front wheel drive car getting the edge on a 4wd car
with similar power.
Although the driver input would have alot to do with it.

I suspect that gearing may be your downfall. As the previous poster comments, you may simply "run out of revs".
If your gearing is such that you can attain high speeds while still within your power band, you should have a really good chance

I am suprised to see a WRX beat anything powered by anything more than wind power - it appears thay are good for nothing according to the Other Marques section
Liked the vid BTW!

and it goes to show that a std newage WRX (in this case a wagon) isnt as slow as some people on here would have you believe !!

I am surprised The scoobie did not get a good launch by the looks of things, yet still it out pulled you!
Are you sure you have as much power as you think? I really would have thought that you should have at least stayed with him once you got off the line.
Oh well

I was close in my guess but i thought the scoob would gain the three car lengths at the start (must be saving his clutch).

Great video to watch. People can talk all they want, but when you see it in reality it's much better. Shame you didn't beat him, but good on the WRX!!

A chipped VRS might have 220 hp and 230 lbft but it will be making that power over a very small part of the rev range, where as the WRX will be holding its power for much longer.
