Could some of you offer advice as to what fuel economy to expect from a '96 STI V3.......ultimately I'm not hugely bothered about fuel costs, I certainly wouldn't be buying it if I was, but I would like to know what to expect as I'm about to have to travel 300 miles a week to commute to uni and I'd like to have a few figures to work with. The commuting stops in december so please no - "don't buy a scooby, buy a VAG TDI instead" comments please!
P.S. I know you're probably sick of fuel economy threads but I had a good search and couldn't find anything that would answer my question.
Cheers chaps and lasses!

no more than 20 mpg MOST of the time with 280 bhp - wwhich it is standard ( ie EVERY SECOND YOUR NOT STROKING THE LOUD PEDAL GINGERLY AT A STEADY 65 mph).....
Ive no idea of your position - but i sure as hell couldnt have ran a scooby as a student..!!

I'd agree with the above from my own experience of travelling distances in my import classic sti - set aside £60-£70 a week for the commute, should cover it okay without having to be too light on the right pedal.

c'mon everyone knows that scoobs dont have great fuel economy man, in the 4 mths i have mine i havent actually checked what i get to a full tank...... i dont want to get upset!haha
I'd heard that the sti's run very rich and that having them re-mapped (if this is possible?) can improve economy further? I know it sounds a tad miser-ish but it's a shame to waste fuel....especially at nearly £1 a litre!

STi3s & 4s can't be re-mapped so it's an aftermarket ecu like an Apexi PF-C to make the most of the car's potential. Meanwhile a Knocklink would be usefull to monitor det.
