Default Remap/ECU

Afternoon team!

Im after a re-map for my Classic.

I know there has been a lot of info written about these, but i have found it all quite confusing!! Whether

I was budgeting for around £800 - would this be sufficient? Anything cheaper?

My car is a 95WRX, with Blitz NUR spec R, Apexi induction kit, and Blitz de-cats. Im also planning on a FMIC before getting the car remapped.

What sort of power can i be expecting afterwards?

You cannot remap a car of that year bud, but for that sort of money
you could have an Apexi Power FC fitted and mapped by Andy Forest
with £50.00 change.

Basically it's a total replacement ECU which is remappable, very handy
for futre mods !

You can get the Commander also for an extra £80.00 which is very handy
and gives you a visual as to what's going on in your car.

Apparently scoobyclinic (http://www.scoobyclinic.com) can remap my93 - 97 classics using the standard ecu for £446.50 plus a couple of hours on the rollers. There is a write up on them in this month's Banzai magazine.

£800 should get you a power fc and commander fitted and mapped, with your other supporting mods I would imagine you would be knocking on 300bhp. Would get a knocklink though just to check if your car is detting or not.

I think that cost is for just a remap, you need to of had a ScoobyECU fitted
beforehand!

So a Apexi power FC will be a complete replacement ECU and produce around 300bhp?

Briforbes, is having a remap the equivalent of having a new ECU? but would need to buy a new ECU as well? Wouldnt this work out more expensive?

not read that particular mag but Ive heard that it is just a piggyback chip similar to an "scoobyecu" may be wrong though.

Thumbs up

I've been looking into a Re-map to 95RON, as my local refinery is very kindly no longer supplying SUL to the forecourts. Inconsiderate BP whelps!

Cheapest option is Apexi Power FC @around £800 (fitted & mapped)
or use NF to boost octane to a respectable level.

Unfortunately for me, my Scoob has a 97 Engine in a 96 body, so my local Techno-Weeney can't map it for me. Let me know if you discover anything!

Yes the apexi power fc is a complete replacement ecu. With your other mods, and in conjuction with a decent mapper you should get close to 300bhp reliable power, with probably a much smoother drive and crispier throttle response etc.

Unless your into serious tuning like the Pro's then i think you will find that the
Apexi Power FC is the Daddy !!

Combined with the commander it allows you to make various adjustments to the car whislst in the drivers seat.

You can have up to 4 boost level settings, it can use the CEL light to detect knock (Doing away with the need for a knocklink), you can also set the maximum rev's which is handy if it's going for a service and stops it being thrashed.

The above are just a few of the features on it.

It's an all round peice of kit !!

Hi Guys,

We do map the early cars using the "scoobyecu" but we think there may be some confusion, the scoobyecu's we use are not a plug and play unit, we fit then bespoke map them to your individual engine.

The price at present is £350+vat for instalation & mapping including the ecu + 2 hours dyno time @ £75 per hour.

hope this clears up some points

Special x, would this give the similar amount of power and reliabilitys, etc as a having a Apexi power FC? Or would it be better to go for the Apexi?

Are you kidding?? Andy is the best, the very bloody best.

Your commander(if you buy one) will show knock levels as well, so a knocklink wouldn't be needed although some may disagree.
