Default Bugeye more throaty than classic?

Hi

Picked up my 2001 bugeye wagon yesterday and it's great to be back in Scooby ownership again

One thing I've noticed though (and it's not a bad thing) - is that this one is more vocal than I remember my MY99 classic being. The car is standard but the flatfour burble is much more pronouced that I remember it being. Has anyone else found this?

The power delivery doesn't seem as smooth either (but the car is due a service - which will probably help it).

Cheers
Richard.

lol - I'm not casting doubt on the classic - I loved the one I had and liked how it was so quiet. I'm just wondering why the bugeye is a little louder.

Makes sense that it was a new design for the newer car. Does make a lovely burbling noise now though.

I know your not, so no offence intended. I to have gone from Classic to New Age. I have a WR BB on mine top burble. Makes people look. I like it.

Some on here do get a little "Marmite" with New Age/Classic.

LOL

-------Classic owner alert, classic owner alert!!!----------------------------

When I got my MY99 it had the pea shooters on and I was amazed at how quiet it was compared to the one with the Prodrive exhaust on that I'd test driven! You could only really discern the burble at idle and even then it was muted! Couldn't have that!! Got a H&S exhaust on it, problem sorted!! :-) I;ve heard a few bugeyes with the peashooters on and -as far as I can tell, they suffer the same fate! Although, I think you're right, the burble was a bit more pronounced at idle. Not pronounced enough though.

You really must get a decent backbox on the Scooby as a matter of priority when you get it, whether its the WR one an aftermarket alternative etc.... The flat four makes one of the finest noises on the road. I went through a tunnel with the driver's windows down and gave it some beans it second...OMG I never realised it sounded so aggressive at full chat. It was amazing. Not sure what the other people in the tunnel made of it though! :-)

Yes, my MY99 had the pea-shooters on it as well - and it was very very quiet (which I actually liked! .. ducks...). My new 2001 WRX really does make the flatfour sound better though and I loved the noise it made when the guy I bought the car from drove up. So much more characterful.

More then enough for me though - never really been into loud exhausts (unusual for a Scooby owner!).

Richard.

i had the pea shooters on my 02 bugeye and thought it was a bit more pronounced than the classic, but HAD to go for a 3" straight through pipe with hayward and scott back box, sounds the dogs now but is still subdued enough on the motorway, and it doesn't wake the neighbours if you don't want to!!!

Probably try and hold out from modifiying the car for at least 12-18 months but at some point I can see myself decatting it and going for a remap.
