Looked at a T plate WRX today and noticed the air con pipes had old style R12 connections for regasing on them i take it the UK cars dont have this ?? and that the Imports are still on R12 ??

No, the gas should R134a gas, even on a import , there should be sticker under the bonnet stating what gas. they changed in Japan in 1993. We have a gas that you can use in the old system that is legal to use and works great.
