What tyres did you have on it?
What speed were you actually doing when you say slow speeds?
What were the road conditions like?

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car.
Diesel or black ice = likely accident regardless of what car you're driving. Probably would have happened at a lower speed had you been driving a car with less grip and traction.
Have you had any training in skid control?
And 40mph isn't exactly crawling around a roundabout! :-)

It is not a fast road or otherwisedangerous by any means running through a housing estate, with speed bumps.

As for the hedge jumping comments, there's not alot you can do if a lorry pulls out in front of you n completely blocks the road, making you take avoiding action into a field

I doubt that it was diesel and the reason is simple. When you got out of the car there would have been an unmissable sweet smell; thered have been no doubt at all. Considering that you didnt make any mention of this, then Im inclined to believe that diesel on the road wasnt the cause. Its a better excuse than admitting to being crap though..... From what youve said the cause was driver over-confidence and complacency.
Subaru Impreza's dont have very good handling at all; they just have a lot of grip. Its easy to overcome the grip though, as youve found out.

Scoobs only have very average suspension setups and chassis. Coupled with less than ideal balance. Thus naturally, the handling follows suit.
So, it must be treated and driven appropriately

Thats sounds a bit final.......how would there have been a smell if the point of being spat out of the bend was a good distance (over grass, embankment etc) from where I landed?
I didn't go back and smell the ground.......
or you're saying that the diesel would be stuck on my tyre and thats where the smell would be coming from?
and admitting i'm crap? you were there?
