Question REV BEEPER - IS POWER CUT?

MY04 STI TYpe UK with TSL 333 - I love saying that - just got the car last week!!! Not read the handbook yet (not all of it anyway.) I have set the rev limiter to 5500 RPM at the moment till I try to get used to the immense power of this missile. What I was wondering was: if the limiter is set to 5500 and I rev it beyon that, other than the beep and the flash, does anything else happen i.e. does the ECU limit boost or similair?

nope

The Rev limiter beep / red light is stored in the dash clocks and is independant of the ECU !!

5500 a bit low ??

Cheers

If you set it at about 7500 you should notice a power cut soon after!!

Nope, is the quick answer, and I would say 6600 is more like it...

Fooooook me ........................... another tossy light that does absolutely NOTHING!!

Along with the CockLink lights flashing and the 'Change Gear NOW ********' light ... it must be lit up like a Xmas tree!!

Cheers guys - yes it is low for just now as I only got it last week and am still taking precautions. I think it is a cool wee gimick unlike the 'bright' switch on the indicator stalk which is a waste of time. Might be a devil and crank it up to 6k tommorow!!

I'm with you Pete.
I am feeling very nostalgic as it is my 50th tomorrow. As you have probably said before most of these youngsters don't know anything about the kind of background I have.

Starting with Peddle cars with those crank peddles connected to the back axel. The 'original' skateboard i.e
a Beano annual on a roller skate that you sat on.

Trolleys made from a piece of scaffold board with pram wheels nailed on.
Bikes made from any other bits of bikes you could get your hands on.(mountain bikes with 21 gears & suspension where not even dreamt of even on 'Tomorrows World'.

All these devices where driven without any protective gear so when you made a mistake it hurt!!

Not to mention the cars Morris 1000,Anglia105E or a Morris Marina for example.

Todays cars are fantastic by comparison& I have found the biggest variation is the driver. In most of the so-called inferior cars I had before getting a Subaru,I could overtake many cars by simply out braking them into a corner.Yes I have even over taken Subarus by doing this .

Is car control a thing of the past?

I think you may be right Pete.

Stephen, I have mine set at 6800 rpm, as I find that by the time you have started to change up on the beep, you are over 7k anyway, and all but done.

You are wise to take it easy until you get used to the power, and I admire your restraint BTW. Enjoy....................
