remember mate they will only write it off, if the labour charge is higher than 60% of the book retail value of the car
what insurance company is it?

It can be constructively written-off for a lot less. Id suggest that theyll offer you a damned sight less than youre expecting; dont take their first offer though.

mate we write cars off or jointly do with insuarance companies every day. and a car like his we wud go to 60% value before writing it off.
obviously their our sum exclusions to this..ie if the car was a lemon even before the accident

you have nothing to worry about with them then. if they write it off. they will give u a fair price. dont accept the 1st offer wot ever its is but obviously accept their 2nd. otherwise they will get difficult and just pay you book price, which these kinda cars are not really "book" cars

id start looking in motor ads to see how much it would cost to get another similar car... how much did you insure it for.. then you can decide if you get offered a fair amount.. you dont have to accept the first offer they give you .... get some proof of cond eg photos and service history ect .. find adds for cars to back you up ... good luck

you can always take the option of contributing to the repair to prevent a total loss/right off. There are always options but like others have said never take there first offer.

I'd be prepared for the worst. Remove any aftermarket parts and replace with standard - so that you can recoup some more money.

As the engine has been damaged then it is going to need to be taken apart to investigate further damage - bent valves, etc - and it would be hard to put a value on that beforehand.

I'd get scouring the autotrader for a replacement if I were you.

Cheers

Terry

It's not so much as how much you are looking for but more what they are willing to give.

On a good note i had a full claim with Admiral after writing off my FD3 RX7 in December 99' the first offer they made was only £587 less than i payed for the car, from the day of the accident to receiving a cheque was 2 1/2 weeks so i was more than happy with them especially when they only wanted £290 to insure me on the MY98 STi i then bought.

i dont think that will show on a HPI report though, not unless its wrote off, but then you wont need to worry as it wont be yours.

guys if the car is repaired through your insurance company it will NOT be recorded anywhere by anyone thats its been repaired and will be worth exactly the same amount as it was before the crash.

cars only get catogirised and registered on the hpi list if your insurance company writes it off.

If it gets written off why not buy back the salvage? My last T5 was written off the day after I sold it. Bloke got 2k more than he paid for it and bought the salvage back for £702. Book price was £5250 and he got £7400 first offer. The car was 1 owner 70k Volvo FSH all receipts and well above average condition. He repaired it with used parts for a total of £1600 and sold it as a damaged repaired car for £3500. Good luck

You paid 7k for that?!?!

Mate, you took someone's trousers down and subjected them to cruel and unusual punishment!!! Are you sure it wasn't them who bumped the car when they found out how much they'd undersold it by!

I'm sorry to hear of the damage though, I do hope the situation is resolved to your satisfaction, must be very upsetting for you.

Start collecting those ads for 11k, that's evidence for your grounds to reject any inadequate offers!

All the best.

phones up the place today and they havent had time to look at it yet as they saw they are very busy, and its been there since 12.30 tuesday :-(

hate waiting, just want to know the answer, so i can sort out what i am going to do next

If the damage has gone as far as the cam cover I would be very surprised if they didn't write it off

there is still a gap that you can see between the wing and the cam cover, but what i think happened when it crashed, the engine moved and hit the strut/wing that is near the top left side of the cam cover and broke it, there is still a gap there now of about 2 inches, thats what makes me think it was from the engine moving when i hit the tree :-(
