51 number plate on a P1
Saw a P1 today on a 51 plate - know they were not made up until this date and thought you could not put a plate on your car that was newer than the age of the car. Is this stil the case with the new style plates? If so, does it sound as though this P1 is on false plates?

Yea its like all these cars left on air fields...
If they were made in 1998 but sold today they can be registered on a 05 plate.
Its stupid really cause its not actually new, its been sat for years waiting to be sold.
BUT i cant imagine some one holding off on a P1 that long to register it

I've seen a bog standard Classic UK Wagon on a 51 plate before sat outside a Subaru garage so I'm sure its genuine.
I guess some just never sold before the new model came out so got registered late - probably find the first owner was a Subaru dealership.
I think there was an issue with P1 sales - either country economics at the time or something to do with the cars themselves I can't remember.

Must admit i've seen a few around, different i know but with the old Series 1 RS Turbo, they were still being sold on D plates even when the Escort Model had been face lifted the year before, excess stock i suppose, after all the P1 was a £30k car prehaps product out stripped demand at that price, henc why it took longer to sell the last ones. Although the paint problem is more near the truth.
