Default MY06 lights ??

OK so the MY06 headlights are now HID (Xenon) rather than halogen.

So who has a MY06?? Are these lights any good and especially in the last few days are the smaller front fogs any good??

Somebody must have driven a MY06 in the dark??

OK so I could go for a test drive but I couldn't trust myself not to buy one and the piggy bank isn't fat enough yet.

Who cares about the lights?? Surely your decision on buying one of these( if you were buying one) does not come down to that.

just interested.

I use HID lights for diving and the beam they give out is great. But the replacement costs of the bulbs and ballast is HUGE.

I will buy the car, but road testers in the mags concentrate on the performance and have a pop at the interior. Thats a given.

Just after a bit of 1st hand info from SN

I had xenons in an S3 i use to own and they were no better than any other cars headlights ive owned.

The height your lights can shine is restricted so the only difference in xenon is the bits that are lit are brighter( so they say i didnt notice it) but the major problem with dipped lights is they dont light the road far ahead as this would dazzle oncoming drivers. Even with halogens, put on the full beam and hey presto u can see miles. So its not the brightness thats the problem its how high dipped lights can go but even with xenons on an unlit road you allways put full beams on as you cant see jack.

Yes, they are much better. I would not say brighter, but it hard to explain the way i would describe the beam (which might not make sense)is a cleaner beam.

The car is one you need to drive to feel all the improvements, as the spec sheet does not tell the whole story buy a long chalk.

Taking the sti tonight we shall have to wait and see what that is like, as the wrx i feel is step on again from the 2005 model, can't put your finger on what has made it better (engine apart) but feels more on rails/sharper steering better ride smoother etc.

The lights are ace in the dark, I go to work at 05.30 and I'm well impresed by them, there is quite a wide arc of light on the 06, and a nice bluish tint to go with them aswell. As for the front fog lights thats a sore point, I had them on the order form to be fitted to my 06 Sti for when i picked it up (last week), but when the japanese sent them over, they sent the ones for the blobeye.
