RB5 'v' 1999 UK Impreza 2000 AWD Turbo
Hi All
I was initially looking at M3s but I've come to my senses.
I am looking into returning to scoob ownership and I really like the RB5 (to look at as I know relatively little about them at the mo)
Can anyone fill me in into the differences between the two cars. The RB5 I hope to get is the non Prodrive version.
Are they effectively the same cars albeit with cosmetic improvements ie, the nice colour, nice blue seats, different alloys or do the differences go deeper than this?
Are they the same bhp and torque wise? Does the RB5 have any handling improvements over the standard UK alternative?
Are after market parts interchangeable ie exhausts, air filters etc.
Thanks all
Brett

Not exactly. I've owned an RB5 since new and have some pics and mods on my own website - www.stefanostadal.homedns.org
There's an official RB5 owners club though - http://www.rb5oc.co.uk/ and their very own forum - http://rb5oc.ipbhost.com/
I lurk on both of them from time-to-time

The RB5 was lauded by the motoring press as "the best" all-round Impreza for UK roads until the P1 arrived. The addition of 205/45/17 rubber (which was retained for the P1) greatly improved feel and grip and the increase in mid-range punch with the WR package made the most of the chassis.
If I were to buy another Scoob I'd look for a nearly standard RB5. Improvements such as solid rear drop-links and an uprated rear ARB, uprated brakes and other bits and bobs like knocklinks / gauges etc would all be desirable, maybe even a back box - but I'd give good money for one that had the original graphics, spoiler, wheels, lights etc etc because it gives such a good indication to the history of the car.
I love the colour and the factory colour coded skirts, the PIAA are nice addition, the wheels are spot-on, they're rare and it bares the monicker of Richard Burns - an all-round good egg.
As time goes on, of course, getting a gem becomes harder - but look hard and you might just find a cracking car which may also proove (in terms of glacial depreciation) to be a financially sound vehicle to own.
Good luck

Cant recommend the RB5 more .... and at todays prices they are becoming a bit of a bargain!!
As Ozzy says (hi Stefan!!) the best place for info. is the RB5 Owners Club (also has a "Cars for Sale" section!)
Has to be the best colour for an Impreza (okay, I know, im biased!! )
