Changing Stereo

Changing Stereo
Hi all,
Changing the factory fitted stereo/cd player on my 05 WRX for a single din Alpine unit and was wondering how easy it is to do. I have the necessary loom adaptor and fasica plate. Do you have to dismantle the centre console in order to remove/install the stereo. Would it be worthwhile getting it done by the experts?

I have to confess I had that done before I picked up the car from the dealers - they do a single din "tray" that fits beneath the stereo that looks like it is part of the original car. Normally you take the stereo out of the aperture without any further dismantling.

The link above gives a step by step guide which I have copied and pasted from a previous link. It really is a pretty easy job, should take you approx 30 mins tops - did mine in that sort of time no trouble at all.
beware of using screw drivers to lever around the dash and centre console as it will scratch easily. I used a bit of 2" masking tape lightly applied around the dash to avoid any accidents / scatches. I broke a platic peg in half and used that to lever the c-console out although I am sure if you wanted you could spend a fortune on a set of plastic lever from halfords if you wanted.
Other than that you need a phillips srew driver, to remove the stereo cage and thats about it really from memory. The link is very detailed and should make life much easier for you so just follow that and I am sure you will be fine.
Honest it's fairly straight forward.
