Mine was, but it was the parts costs
The servicing is not bad, at 4500 miles / service it can add up, but a specialist knows its only the ACY fluid that really needs these intervals.
But parts !
2K for a new AYC (second hand 4K new and they are not repairable)
£300 for a starter !

I suppose the old saying "if you have to ask................................."
Having never owned one I'm afraid I can't give any advice on reliability etc but I'm sure somebody will be along shortly with tales of woe regarding costs etc as well as others who will no doubt rave about performance, handling etc.

Not much help I know but I wonder how many sales mistsubishi have lost due to the pish service intervals. Its the only thing that stops me getting one. Surely they can make it 10k as very similar spec cars to scoobs.

Was reading a car mag, that had a Evo long term test (not Evo Mag) and they said that in one year with Petrol, Servicing, and consumables i.e tyres, oil, etc it cost them £6k. £6k in one year !!!!! Yes, being a Jurno car they probably did more miles than average, but even so. I did consider getting a Evo FQ330, but after reading that I went for the STi with PPP.

yeah, i was vaguely considering a new Evo VIII 260 a while ago, but when the salesman told me about the 4500 service interval at a cost of around £400 i thought NO CHANCE!
Fuel economy also seems to be considerably worse too. if you bought one, you'd probably be dreaming of doing 24mpg

I have a Evo 8 MR300 it came with 3yrs free servicing or 27k which ever comes first, The car has never been tracked ect, but will need a new clutch soon, it has never been launched, it's just chewed through a set of tyres and has had front & rear pads changed. Fuel consumption is around 16/19 miles per gallon but the grin factor is fantastic and I would not swop it for anything. Owning one as far as running costs are concerned, is like living in a ***** house in Amsterdam LOL

I wouldnt want to through my money down the toilet by buying brand new so unfortunately it rules EVO's out for me. Pity as i like them. Never tried one like but they look smart and ive heard from heaps of people how good they are. Still love my scoob and it was by no means a compromise. An evo will never sound like mine.

My MR FQ320 since new (July 2004, and 15,000 miles ago) has cost me about
£180 p/m - fuel (assuming about 700 miles per month)
£1300 - New clutch on 13,000 miles...after about half a dozen launches
£140 - New front brake discs
£2000 for the first 10 months insurance, £1400 on renewal
£1000 - approx total sevice cost up to this point
£400 - approx for new tyres on 12,000 miles
I wouldn't call it cheap to run. I average about 13-15mpg...max has been 19mpg

Well Ive had my EVO 8 from new (August 2003) FQ300, the servicing to date has been:-
1st Year servicing
=============
1,000 mile or 1 month service £110
4,500 mile or 6 month (really 5 months!) service £187
9,000 mile or 12 month service £237
So after 1st year it cost me £534, not sure how a newage STi would compare with this.
2nd Year servicing
==============
13,500 or 18 month service £306
18,000 or 24 month service £446
Now £752 for 2nd year and 1 less service, seems to increase every time so when I go in December I reckon it will be £500 to £600. They seem to replace more "consumables" every service now E.G they insist on changing the bloody air filter every 6 months a well now @ £35 each time!!
Tyres last approx 10k miles without track days, and I haven't done any of those.
Fuel, I usually get between 140 miles (Round town) or 220 miles max (Motorway cruise, you won't get this if you push it). I can get about £42 quid of Optimax in the tank with the fuel light on.
Brakes are very expensive I hear but not needed any yet, just had a skim on the disks once, but probably need pads at next service so my Xmas service may top £800 to £900.
Anyway after 14,000 miles and 27 months of ownership every mile has been fantastic apart from when I have to go to the dealers to part with more hard earned cash!
I have owned a MY97 Turbo 2000 and a MY01 WRX PPP prior to this car and I would definately have another EVO, just hope I can wait for the EVO X before swapping.
