Default New 2.5 Sti

Hi

Just wondered if anyone had taken the new Sti out for a test drive yet?

The reason I ask is I went down to my local dealer yesterday as my mate is looking to buy a 02 WRX and wanted to see what the scooby fuss is about, whilst we were there I decided to take the sti out, ( I have a 03 sti ) well after a good 40 minute play I was shocked I thought it was nacked, there was no punch from 3000 rpm nothing I asked the dealer if this was normal and he replied yes it has better low down torque and is alot smoother car, which it was but fun NO to me it felt very low on power and nothing like a scooby.

Replies please

Cheers

Craig

Supposed to be taking one out next week.
I have driven the 2.5 WRX, which was impressive.
Alot of dealers do run there cars on normal unleaded which does dampen the performance, saying that the WRX I drove was on n uleaded and that flew.

Something amiss there methinks. The 2.5 should be noticably more flexible and powerful than its predecessor. Most likely the dealer using poo fuel! I've driven some scoobies that should be run on SUL which have had NUL put in them and they don't like it at all!

Being a brand new car, the engine will be very tight. When I got my 05 STi I wasn't happy with performance, but as the miles went on the quicker it got.

Got my JDM STi brand new that shifted with no problems low down
1.5 start to feel the pull, 2k, pulling, 2.5k squashed in seat
Car was pushing approx 280bhp at the time as was tight and kept below 4k!

I took the new WRX (not Sti) for a test drive two weeks ago. Admittedly it only had 400miles on the clock so the engine was probably quite tight but none the less it didn't feel as punchy as the 2 litre predecessor. Power delivery was smoother and it felt nippier off the mark but still has that dead acceleration when sitting in 5th at 70mph.

Front end looks better, not sure about those rear crystal style lights.

I think we'll really have to reserve judgement untill we get some feedback on engines that have covered more than 5k miles and run on SUL. We do know that the 2.5l produces more power and torque than the 2.0l and will have a less "highly strung" power delivery which may be less exciting in their delivery, but will make for a more flexible and faster point to point car. However, it will take time for the engines to loosen up and deliver their potential.

My car was brand new and delivered that, and that was on 100 ron fuel, the 2.5 can run on 95 ron fuel, though 97 is better for it, mine prefers 102 ron fuel though 100 is ok for it.

One thing to watch on the new 06 2.5 Sti is the speedo ! As it is geared taller than the 05 Sti then it can return a false impression of speed. In a side by side acceleration run I would expect the 06 to leave the 05 from any speed.
As for the JDM's, they spend more time changing gear than in gear It will be interesting to see how they compare on the 1/4 mile or a 0-120mph test.

Andy, should be quicker on 1/4 and 0-120, first 4 gears are the same as a uk STi, 5th is shorter but still get 120mph out of it
