Im getting my car re-mapped by Andy F. next month so thought I would get an induction kit installed at the same time.
Whats the best kit going?
I have an STi Type-R V5.

Instead of throwing this open to the possibly poorly informed opinion on ScoobyNet; why not ask Andy Forrest what (if anything) he suggests?

What did it sound like?
What kind of Scoob have you got?
Have any problems with it?
Where did you buy it from?
Sorry for all the questions.

I bought a K&N with the bell mouth GGR type filter. It has made a definate difference to the pick up of the car. Even the wife said the car felt faster, and she hates me playing with cars
I have put induction kits on cars before and have never noticed any difference but this one deffo have done something. I got mine second hand but I think these are quite expensive when bought new.
It is a bit noisey and you can hear the dump valve now but overall it suits me. I did not oil it as there seems to be probs with the MAF and oiled fliters

I have just taken a K & N filter off mine, the only difference I have noticed is that you cant hear the oem dumpvalve as much, and its stopped the sucking noise that you get. power feels the same, and I feel more comfortable driving it, as I know the maf is more likely to not go pop.
so if anyone wants a k&n filter let me know you can have it cheap.

hi mate,
maybe consider a panel filter? tsl fitted a green panel filter to there 22b after tests showed it flowed better than induction kits. i know its on a new age but one works fine on the spec c in the modification thread. it might be advisable to fit a 3 port boost solenoid if using an induction kit, where its not needed with a panel filter (as told to me by bob rawle when he mapped my V6 type r, with a panel filter)
bang per buck - panel filter £40 and i'd expect the maf to last 4 years
induction kit £100+, 3 port solenoid £(can't remember but maybe £100) and i'd expect the maf to last 1 / 2 years, so thats another £100 (just my exp with induction kits on MY99/00)
and unless your going for big power will it be that much more powerful if any at all?

Ive been away ages and there are still threads about induction kits - cant believe it! Cant someone do a sticky on this in gen technical?!!
APS - DO NOT fit it until you are about to have the car mapped. They cause the MAF to dangerously underread and will cause bad det. Its a nice filter IMO.
Do you need it? I would say no if you sre sub 330ish bhp - will just suck in hot air (inless its an APS) and cause a nasty noise imo.
Stick with a green cotton, gave great result on my STi5.
I dynoed a MY96 and made more without the K&N cone.

I am sure some have this fitted and havent blown their engines?
FWIW, I have a Power Engineering Bespoke K&N jobbie, with MAF rescaled to suit by BRD. Horror stories put me of the Apexi induction kit, but TBH, I think if every single scoob with one had engine failure (remember, they were made - IIRC - before the days of mass remapped ECU's - i.e. before ECUTEK was available) how could they possibly keep on selling them?
