my air con keeps coming on when the fans are on and directional meter is pointed to both the windscreen, and then the floor and windscreen.

is this normal coz i was gonna take it bakcsaying there was a problem!

Have you got either of the dials on auto (climate control mode)- specifically the one furthest from you when sat in drivers seat ?
Seems to randomally put air where it feels like it - or it does on mine !

The newage aircon cuts in when the dial is pointed to any of the "windscreen positions" ! Just manually toggle it off and it won't come on again unless you move the dial.

My 02 WRX does exactly the same, if the heater is pointed anywhere near cold then the air-con starts if the direction is on the windscreen.

It's designed to de-mist the windscreen but it gets bl00dy annoying sometimes!!

 

My MY05 WRX does this - whenever the demist settings are selected it turns the aircon on ..... I just manually turn it off if I don't want it on. I don't find it a huge problem.

 

and mine !!!

 

Mine is just left on auto all the time, it just seemily randomly puts the air where it feels like it.

I have a MY05 WRX and my aircon does exactly the same.

One other thing I have noticed id that i dont appear to have a steering wheel lock is this normal????

 

Yeah my MY05 WRX does the same ( As does my Dad's Mondeo )
Its suppossed to be quicker to clear the windscreen with AC on.

I find mine steams up in the rain a lot so have to use the AC quite a bit.

oh well thats a pain seems that everyone has this why would they have this feature o a performance car i never ever used the air con in my last impreza and had that for nearly 3 years!
