1 of my many possible new cars for 2006 is a P1 .... whats everyones views on them ? Good, bad bits ? Ones to look out for ? Is a RB5 or Type R better one to go for ?
Thanks in advance

fair play to the comments but to justify your reasons would be useful as i am also intersted in purchasing a p1. in my opinion (for what its worth) i consider the p1 a better buy and possibly better car?p1 is uk car, may get one with warranty. no problems with remaps knock sensors etc, uk service history and some unique styling mods. think the type r is limited top speed but am sure ill be corrected if wrong. downside p1 is pricey

Get yourself a P1 mate. I owned a beautiful one for 2 years and loved every minute if it.
There are better cars out there for certain types of driving (trackdays, etc) but the can also be less forgiving if you get it wrong.
You need to test drive a P1 and I bet you'll be smitten. Just make sure if you do buy one that you get one with the brake upgrade as they are poor as standard.
Have a look on www.p1woc.co.uk too for more info.
Cheers

yep its done to death but they are the same cars(P1 & V5typeR) with a couple of add on / take off bits. the geezers that come on here saying the TypeR's are miles better are speaking out of there a$$, as are the guys who says the P1 is miles better.
Mecanically typeR has DCCD (very good), P1 does not. P1 has ABS (useful) typeR does not. TypeR has IC water spray (gimmick) P1 does not. P1 has slightly more compliant suspension and the fancy front/rear spoiler and nicer seats.
better uk back up for P1 but warranty is out on most of them now. Engines are identical, ECU's the same, neither of them are the most reliable of imprezas.
TypeR probably marginally better drivers car, P1 undoubtedly better day to day car. P1's still a few more pounds than typeR.
In a nutshell the decision is wether you think the fact that P1 is a uk car and the cosmetic bits are worth the extra money.

Personally, I love the look of the P1, but my head would say 'buy a type r!' you just seen to get more for your money... Close ratio box, dccd, type r suspension (better for track). Then again, there is a p1 on autorader for £10500!!!!

I know I was horrified when I saw that only last night, all I can say is that must be a very poor example, maybe no service history or something - I dont know, lets just say no one in their right mind would let an A1 P1 go for that kinda money.

You really haven't told us what you want from a car. The two cars although similar are quite different
I had a P1 for 4 years and an sti5typeR before that. Day to day, no question the P1 is the better option. I put 45k miles on mine from new. I had full dealer support and a cast iron subaru warranty, some P1s will still have subaru warranty remaining, and of course they can be renewed. The P1 had a taller final driver which was good for motorway driving, I saw around 60 miles extra per tank than the sti.
Yes the sti has a few things that the P1 doesnt have, like waterspray (gimmick as stated above) DccD, which I found to be a pain day to day driving and too tail happy. If youre going to have the car as a weekend car or a track car then id say the sti, but for everyday driving and peace of mind etc, it has to be the P1.
Do a search for the full list of pros and cons, this has been done to death many a time. I get bored of people who simply say get this one as its better as that's just nonsense especially when not backing up their statements.

the most important thing to take into account, which most people forget is the colour options..the type R has a few colour,s such as grey, white, black, dark blue and sonic blue.i think the p1 is only avaliable in sonic blue.the p1,s sonic blue is also a different one to that of the type R.

I've had both..Type R for 7 yrs and a P1 for 4mths.The P1 is much more relaxed to drive and not as urgent as the Type R.....In my opinion the P1 is a better car for the novice where the Type R would suit someone with a bit more driving skill. At my time of life now (34yrs) the P1 is more suited to me and i couldn't be happier especially when i put my 2.33 in with rotated garrett gt 30........Alan
