Default what do you make of this (sti or not?)

Says it's an sti, but to me it looks just like a WRX with sti stickers and strut brace..

It's just I was looking at the questions and answers and it seems to be getting a lot of debate (as people obviously are questioning0

No STi seats, no sti gearknob (shorter and red stitching) no sti steering wheel, no sti silver intercooler, no sti 7500rpm red limit, etc etc

it even seems the guy has given a WRX chassis code! despite arguing it's an sti. (GC8-C48D where the 8 in the last 4 digits = WRX)

There is an even better one on ebay that says it's an sti (white classic) which appears to be a pretty much std UK with sti sprayed on the intercooler

Earlier sti's didin't have redtop engines. And i'm sure that only version 4's have the newer seats, i'm pretty sure the seats in it are the early version sti seats. Looks fine to me. But I ain't no pro, maybe someone else could help.

HORRIBLE EXHAUST THOUGH.

I know early sti's don't have red tops (I didn't say they did)

Aren't the seats just 260ps WRX seats?

The seats should be STi logo'd, here's a more genuine sti on ebay. it looks like it's had the inlet painted though and it's got an aftermarket ****. Note the same slanted intercooler but silver, seats, proper sti strut brace etc. there was a 94 on there earlier with the sti seats too

does look just like a normal jap wrx to me, but the dials seem a bit wierd, you don't normally see the standard uk dials in a jap import, they normally fit tommy kiara ones or somethin like that, as i believe the calibration is different 9kms to miles), thats why the speedo dial hardly seems to move, as the dial goes up to 260 mph or somethin, so at 30 its just off the bottom.
Looks far too standard to be an STi in my opinion, but someone on here is gonna come along and shoot down everything i just said!!!!!

1st thing, its a minimum of 260bhp model as the aerial for radio is on the rear passenger wing.

sti features -
it does have the rally logos under the side repeaters.
it also has the large green wrx logo on the boot.
it does have the sti v2 spoiler.
sti grey interior is there, however no pic of the actual seats which shows sti logo.

Those are only the cosmetics, which can be changed easily.

The questionable item is the model code he has given.... that’s a 260bhp wrx code not and sti code.

there is enough of the seats to see they are just 260ps WRX seats, if you look at my 2nd link.. they are sti seats.

For me it's just a WRX that someone in Japan has put on.. sti fog light covers, sti wing badges, sti rear sticker.

It just annoys me people sell stuff which isn't what it's meant to be. Someone could quite easily buy that, pay the extra insurance and think they had their sti.

As I said there is a better one than that on ebay (white 96 facelift)

I think iirc there were are some wrx v limiteds (not sti's) but i cant remember what years they started and my iwoc webpage doesnt show them.
the wrx v ltds had similarish seats to an sti, with the mini badge underneath the side repeaters, but also a boot badge, not a wrx sticker.
but as said the model code says it all, not an sti 2.

At the end of the day still a nice looking car

The clocks on that are exactly the same as the ones in my old my97 sport, but as I said all the jap imports i have ever seen have all had really different dials.

Loving the exhaust!
("THE CAR IS IN EXCELENT CONDITION ") - yeh right.
To me loooks like a wrx that has been trashed within a inch of its life with fresh paint on just about every panel with all those bits of extra plastic. 65000 miles - yes - 65000 miles of pure trash with all them mods. Not convinced.
I thought all stis had the sti seats and stitching on the steering wheel and gear ****?

They certainly all had the seats but I'm not sure about the steering wheel & gearknob.

Ive seen a few wrx manuals with these clocks with the space for the auto lights. They could be original.

There should be a plaque in the engine bay to say what number it is. Cant see it in the picture.

The car isnt an STI; although a good few of the points raised as reasons are spurious. Has anyone mentioned the redline which belongs to a WRX at 7000rpm? As stated; in the questions he has confirmed that the AMN is GC8C48D which is a WRX C-Series number.

Consider too the location and draw your own conclusions..........

A few other points is also the slanty intercooler is not painted black STI's are shinny alloy type,Tuned by STI logos on the pully cover and carbon strut brace. You should ask him to strip the engine down and show the forged pistons which all STI's have LOL.

Not sure on the version 2/3's STI's but the version 1's only redline at 7000rpm but they do run slightly higher boost than WRX's even though mine is standard it boosts to 1.25bar and holds steady at 1.1 bar and fuel cut is at 1.3 bar ouch!!!!
