The classic is dead!
Its a sad day but it has to be said the classic is dead.
I was out today for 1 whole hour and saw six classic turbos modified straight out of halfords scrap bin.
I assume the price bracket falling so low has made this a formality, if anyone can show me a standard example with less than 50k I think I may shed a tear.

For those of us who own Classic's without all of the bolt-on b--llsh-t & ridiculous coloured lights, just slight un-noticed mod's the future is good.
I am not the slightest bit concerned that my MY93 WRX-Ra will fetch quite a decent price when sold, when that may be who know's.
Classic's rock....

Thankfully, my area appears to be dodgy scooby free!

I havent posted on here for quite some time, for the just the reason of this crap post, get over the fact that for quite some years the Scooby has been thought of as a Boy racers car, not just recently as you would like to think. If you dont like the image of Scoobies sell yours.

The only time the Scooby had a good image is when it was being sold on the same forcourt as Tractors, since then it has always been known as a holigan motor, think some of the people on here need to face reality, sell there Scoob and get back to their copy of Saga magazine.

I bought my 1994 WRX as I've always wanted one, I don't really give a t*ss what other people think. You can categorize a car all you want, the poeple that bought their car for the right reasons will laugh at posts like this!!

Yep I agree the classic is dead, couldn't sell it for decent money if you tried.
Hence the reason I have given up and now making it something truly worth owning, it's in a bit of a mess at the moment though.
You just dont buy sports cars to even think about making money on when you come to sell..
It is a shame to see every single one of them chav'd up to the eyeballs now a days, but it's inevitable that it's going the same way as the ford RS's did ten years ago.

I agree too. I bought one because iv always wanted one, If certain people want to make them in to all show and noise then its every one to there own (Its there car). I personally will be making mine into a street sleeper with no show and lots of go !!!!!!!!!!! If every one was the same, life would be boring!!!!

While my cossie is off the road for the winter i wanted fairly quick 4wd car for the winter and the scooby fitted the bill perfectly, there was nothing else in the price bracket ( 6k) that could match it, had to be the wagon though as its parked on the drive and didnt want it to attract too much attention. Got to say being a ford man i really like the scooby, its a 99 treg wagon thats covered 50k from new, ive even done a track day at cadwell park in it and it was great, i agree there are some ***** about but thats the same with every type of car, there are just alot of scoobs about so its bound to attract ****, dont tar everyone with the same brush, at the end of the day alot of people think im just another **** when im out in the cossie so to be honest i dont care.

I think a lot people are being way too pretentious about the chav thing, it is stereotyping gone completely out of control.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a government funded scheme to promote a more "in-line" quality of resident. Lets all get a vauxall, ford, renault etc. rep. mobile.
Here's to individuallity!!!
Regarding the classic it speaks for itself, it will certainly never be dead! All cars get old, and all cars attempt to evolve, but few are or have been as successful as the Impreza within it's market, especially in it's earlier years!

I've got a classic and love it, dont care what its worth or who else drives them.
I have one and I drive it, that works for me.
One of my friends grandad has a corsa and he does not care, that Halford's do bolt on's for them, and indeed that they are associated with the so called chav brigade.
Maybe its an age thing, possibly just a mental age thing.

Yes, you can chuck in 95 unleaded, change the oil when you feel like it, drive around on cheapo tyres etc.... but one day, the penny will drop.
How much do people expect for a 6-12 year old car that originally cost £20,000?
The classic shape impreza is cheap performance car, but good, well looked after examples are becoming a rarity these days.

You can say what you like about the classics and the people who may, or may not, be driving them but they are a fun car to drive with good handling. To be honest I'd say that my MY99 was as much fun as my MKII RS2000 and in terms of smiles per gallon either of them blow my new age STi into the weeds.
When I bought my MY99 there was a 6 month waiting list for cars in some parts of the country and there is no question that the turbo Impreza was an icon. It got that status because of what it could do, lets face it there was no question of getting it for good looks, and how much fun it was for the keen driver. No matter what we might think of the image problems that the classic cars might now have, if that is indeed the case, there is no question that the people driving them are driving a motoring icon that deserved its reputation as a fantastic car. My 03 STi will go down as a failed follow up to an icon and history will note that it handles like a pig (as another poster put it today) and lacks the fun and charisma of what went before. We are currently nearly 6 years into this decade and I can't think of a single car that has had the impact that the Turbo had on the last decade, it literally moved every goal post and redefined expectations.
What is even more annoying, as i drive along in my rapidly depreciating STi, is that i know that all those "chavs" in their £6,000 MY99 Turbos could leave me for dead on a twisty bumpy road where confidence, feedback and handling count for more than power and sheer grip.

Any cheap performance car is going to be bought by your local boy racer, who wants the cheapest fastest car he can get insured on
Im sure I would get the same snobbery comments from BMW drivers, if I bought a BMW X5 and stuck 22"inch chrome spinners on and pimp tints.
You either fall into one of the brackets below.
(1) Likes big bling wheels and lexus lights look, and think Lambo style doors are cool on your scooby.
(2) Like the subtle look and rather spend your money on performance mods
(3)You like the way Suburu made the car, and like to keep it standard.
I prefer number (2).
