Import (meaning it'd need to have been run on SUL and OB to avoid engine damage) AND a dawes device. Basically a valve that allows you to crank up the boost, but does not make appropriate adjustments to the ignition and fueling. That's a no-no, there is a margin for error with these on UK cars, that run very rich as std, but an import, running on lower grade fuel.....sounds like a recipe for a rebuild if you ask me.
Yet the other mods are good and seemed to be geared towards safety..... Strange.
Wouldn't touch it unless it had a full engine check including a compression test to make sure it was ok. Then and only then, I'd immediately loose the Dawes device and have it properly remapped for UK SUL fuel by one of the experts on here- will cost between £550-700 depending on where you go.
Whatever happens, you MUST get it professionally inspected. I'd also seek the advice of a specialist like David at API.
4k may seem like a good dea, but if the engines shagged you're looking at having paid 4k for the rest of the car and then a further 2.5k for a rebuild...for an 11 year old car!
Good luck.

Test drive by all means, but thats not enough I'm afraid, the car may seem perfectly ok and then suffer a big end failure a couple of weeks down the line. You'll need a compression check on the engine to get some idea of its health.
Seriously, 4k is a lot of money to loose. You really MUST have it looked over by a professional!! This is an 11 year old Performance car. It will have been driven hard and you need to know how much life is left in it, or you could loose your shirt!!
I take it youve looked into the insurance and running costs; these aren't cheap cars to keep on the road.
I worry when I see people paying this much for scoobies, I really do!!

just e-mailed him to ask how long the car has been in the uk, what fuel is it currently running on, has it had an engine/compression check.

the insurance is about £10 more than my v6 and i only average 4k a year but i have 5 m8's who are mechanics and im takin 2 of them with me so i might get them to take a compression kit with us to give it a goin over as one of my m8 had a evo6rally art and knows alot more about these sort of cars than me but if its no good then ill look somewhere else as i know im gona regret sellin my vectra as is a very rare car and only 38 built.
